UK International Soccer

This is coach Marcel, A 3rd year BSc Football Coaching student at the University of South Wales who is coaching in the United States, with UK International Soccer, and it’s fair to say that he’s been making the most of it. Having reached out to Marcel to talk about his experiences so far, he had this to say: “Being in America has been the greatest experience of my life so far. Every time I've returned home, I've noticed how much I've grown, through self-confidence as a person and through my coaching. I've been fortunate enough to travel to almost 20 states and have experienced things I wouldn't in the UK and met people for life. I completed the greatest accomplishment of my life, so far, by running a marathon, I met Wayne Rooney and had the opportunity to coach with his assistant coach, Pete Shuttleworth. I visited my favourite city, New York City and explored the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 Memorial. I had the chance to watch my favourite football (soccer) team, Borussia Dortmund for the first time and I ran up the famous steps from my favourite movie, Rocky, in Philadelphia”. We can’t guarantee that you will run a marathon or meet Wayne Rooney, but why not combine studying with USW and coaching in the United States with UKIS a try?

Say hello to Declan Pierce, a 1st year masters student at the University of South Wales. Originally from Dunfermline in Scotland, Declan is now living life out in Cincinnati, Ohio. Declan currently works with a club called Cincinnati United, coaching 3 teams and also helps operate their Player Development Program. Here is what he had to say about his time out here while studying the Masters program. “My time here has been incredible and the placement I have been given really suits my needs and how I work in the game allowing me to grow further. The host families I have been staying with couldn’t be anymore supportive and helpful. They have been truly amazing as we go off on regular adventures together, be that going to local soccer games, kayaking or going to the theme parks around us”. Declan went on to say that his studies have allowed him to better understand the concept of leadership within sports and given him the chance to put into practise what I learn while studying the course. Gap intern, Ndugire has been loving his time in Hawaii. He been coaching there for 7 weeks, enjoying his soccer camps. A belated congratulations to our May coach of the Month, Adam Newton. Adam is a 1st year student at USW, who has spent the last 3 months coaching in America, California. Operations Manager for the region, Lewis McDonnell described Adam as an “invaluable member of staff, with has demonstrated unwavering levels of professionalism and reliability since the very start”. Adam has shown his versatility by working both Foster City and Redwood City AYSO programs this Spring. He has individually led the AYSO program in Redwood City, rising to the challenge and proving himself to be an excellent coach. Congratulations Coach Adam!
