  • 10/7/2024: Last night, we came together as a UM Jewish community to mourn, pray, and remember the victims of October 7. In all the sadness, we found hope. We WILL DANCE AGAIN. We will not forget. Am Yisrael Chai. Thank you to our student leaders, President Betty Srour and Vice President Corey Silberglied, who spoke. Thank you Rabbi Jason Cook for the inspiring words. Thank you to Pat Whitely, University of Miami President Joe Echevarria, and Dr. Ryan C. Holmes for helping to make the event possible and UMPD for keeping us safe. University of Miami

  • Here at UM Hillel, the ‘kids are alright’. We are grateful that the University of Miami administration works directly with Hillel to create a safe learning environment for all Jewish ‘Canes. Hillels worldwide have consistently supported our students throughout their college experiences, and the University of Miami Hillel serves as a prime example of effective campus community support. As we continue to address the challenge of antisemitism, we lean on the unwavering backing of our community (which includes you!), who generously offer resources and assist in educating our future leaders for a better tomorrow. We hope you hear directly from our students - who showcase a strong sense of Jewish pride, work with Hillel to build new opportunities for their peers, and so much more. As we gear up for another school year, your donation goes twice as far in bolstering our UM Jewish community and ensuring the safety of our students. Make a matched gift today at give.hillel.org/Canes.

  • This past spring break, sophomore and Vice President of Hillel’s Student Executive Board, Corey Silberglied, attended the AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) conference in Washington DC. At the conference, Corey heard from speakers such as Mike Johnson who is the US Speaker of the House of Representatives. Corey also had the opportunity to lobby in both the Senate and the House of Representatives to show the importance of continuing political cooperation between Israel and The United States. We are so humbled that our student leaders are able to travel around the country for such amazing professional development and leadership opportunities.

Second-year Finance student at the University of Miami Herbert Business School seeking educational, engaging, and rewarding opportunities.

This January, I began my year-long term as Treasurer at the University of Miami Hillel. Hillel is one of the largest student organizations on the UM Campus and is growing every single day. As one of the top-ranked Hillel programs in the country, we are ensuring a strong Jewish community on campus. I look forward to working with student leaders to budget and plan for programs and initiatives that will strengthen Jewish life at the University of Miami!

I am thrilled to share my recent experience volunteering at Camillus House in Miami as a Service Engagement Intern for Hillel International (University of Miami Hillel), in partnership with Repair The World. Serving food to those in need has been an incredibly humbling and rewarding experience. At Camillus House, I had the privilege of working alongside dedicated volunteers and staff members, coming together to make a difference in our community. Through this opportunity, I've learned the true value of compassion, empathy, and the power of service to positively impact lives. I am grateful for the support of Hillel International and Repair The World, whose commitment to social justice and community engagement inspires me daily. Together, we are not only serving meals but also fostering connections and building a stronger, more inclusive society. I encourage everyone to seek out opportunities to volunteer and give back to their communities. Together, we can make a meaningful difference and create a brighter future for all. #ServiceEngagement #Volunteering #CommunityImpact #HillelInternational #RepairTheWorld #Miami 🌟

This past week, 4 students from University of Miami's CanePAC organization attended the first ever Israel Day at the Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida. CanePAC is a bipartisan, political advocacy organization at UM that educates and engages student leaders on issues at the forefront of our society; particularly the Middle East and the U.S.-Israel relationship. In Tallahassee, they met with Florida Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez and member of the House of Representatives, Hillary Cassel, to hear about how they're supporting the Jewish communities during this time. They also met with Maor Elbaz Starinsky , the Consulate General of Israel in Miami and discussed antisemitism on college campuses. Students Jessica BoydSamantha WeissmanEthan Melendi and Allie Rodman also heard from survivors Millet Ben Haim and Rom El Hai of the Nova concert in Israel on October 7th. “Hearing the tragic and horrific stories from the two Nova Survivors was very moving and made me feel even more connected to Israel,” sophomore Samantha Weissman shares on her experience.

  • This past week, 7 students from University of Miami Hillel attended the Hillel International Israel Summit in Atlanta, GA. These students joined 800+ Jewish college students across North America to come together to share their pride in being Jewish and caring for Israel at a time when hostility toward Israel has become ingrained online and on campuses. Our students heard from families who have immediate family members being held hostage, saw a live concert from Israeli Superstar Netta, learned from many impactful speakers including Hillel CEO Adam Lehman, and more. They also explored Atlanta and connected with college students from around the country. We are so excited for these students to bring their experiences back to campus and continue to impact our Jewish community in meaningful ways.
