At the Roblox Developer Conference, founder and CEO David Baszucki set an ambitious goal of 1 BILLION Daily Active Users - a giant leap from the current 80M – to capture 10% of all gaming revenue flowing through Roblox. To achieve this goal, the platform will focus on supporting CREATORS in building their businesses while empowering PLAYERS to build communities: 🎉Party System · Players have the ability to text each other, both inside & outside of games (voice planned for end of 2024 for users aged 13 or older). · In future, this feature will evolve to allow players to connect further – teleporting to the same game, starting a private lobby, and pairing up to be on the same team. 👯 “Groups” becomes “Communities” · Rebranding of the user-created forums where players connect with others who share their interests, share feedback on experiences & report any issues. 🔍Discovery · Players will see a wider selection of games across the homepage “Today’s Picks” and ‘Marketplace”, widening the variety of games played. · Creators will have greater transparency into search & discovery, allowing them to understand what the platform values and therefore develop experiences to maximize visibility. 🎨Creativity · New AI tools will aid in the development of experiences through 3D model generation, leading to a wider variety of creative styles. · Experiences will be optimized across devices to avoid issues in varying capabilities, delivering a more seamless experience for players. · Coming soon are high-performance, 100-player open world, sports, or battle royale-type games. 🌎Economy · A new option will help creators optimize the pricing within their experience, running tests and recommending improved pricing strategies inc. regional recommendations. · A big shift away from its free-to-play model, Roblox will allow paid-access games with increasing tiers of revenue share, competing with the likes of Xbox , Nintendo, PlayStation, Unreal Engine, Apple iOS, Android and Steam. · Maybe the biggest news of the event, creators will be able to sell physical merchandise from within their experiences in a partnership Shopify (other e-commerce platforms coming soon). 🎶Music · ‘What's Playing’ will allow users to discover music, identify songs, and “like” their favorites while playing games. · Based on these likes, ‘Music Charts’ will highlight popular artists, musicians, and audio experiences. #RDC #creatoreconomy #creators #players #gaming #brandmarketing #ai #music
