Wild tigers have a crucial place in Asian landscapes and biodiversity and act as both an umbrella and indicator species, protecting the wider ecosystem and indicating a healthy environment. Over the past 12 years, tiger populations have begun to rise in five countries – increasing for the first time in over a century. With effective, collaborative conservation, evidence shows tiger numbers can recover. As part of the solution, fighting for a #FutureWithTigers, the Tiger Conservation Coalition (Environmental Investigation Agency, Fauna & Flora IUCN, NATURAL STATE, PANTHERA, TRAFFIC, UNDP, Global Environment Facility, Wildlife Conservation Society, Zoological Society of London (ZSL), WWF) brings together leading biologists and experts in wildlife crime, human-wildlife coexistence, policy, finance, development and communications, with unprecedented alignment on achieving tiger conservation at scale. The United Nations Development Programme in Asia and the Pacific
About us
Development challenges in Asia and the Pacific are as diverse and complex as the region itself. It has some of the youngest democracies and some of the world’s most dynamic economies, but it is also home to more than half the world’s poor. It is the most disaster-prone region in the world, with small island developing states in the Pacific bearing the brunt of climate change. Meanwhile, concerns about environmental degradation are increasingly relevant for some of the fastest growing economies in the region. To respond to these challenges, UNDP concentrates its efforts on building the region’s capacity to promote inclusive, pro-poor growth, effective governance, and sustainable and resilient development. We help our partners in identifying relevant solutions to today’s complex, trans-boundary development challenges. We support them to design and implement large scale development initiatives that deliver lasting social, economic and environmental improvements in countries across the region. UNDP provides support to governments to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into their national development plans and policies. This work is already underway, as we support many countries in accelerating progress already achieved under the Millennium Development Goals.

Countries are adapting to new environmental realities by improving our interaction with the environment. Several UNDP projects approved at #GEFcouncil67 Meetings will assist countries as they contend with: · Sea-level rise · Setbacks in gender equality and social inclusion · Land degradation · The need to mobilize finance and engage the private sector in development issues … and much more. We are grateful to work in partnership with the Global Environment Facility to improve the health of our planet and of our global society toward the #2030Agenda. Tonga is extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, not least sea level rise and more intense tropical cyclones. Adaptation is an urgent priority. Great news as the Green Climate Fund approves $22.6M toward building long-term coastal resilience:
We're excited to announce that the Green Climate Fund has approved a US$22.6 million grant for Tonga’s Coastal Resilience Project, with co-financing from the Government of Tonga and UNDP.
