This year marks the 20th anniversary of UniCare, a Managed Care Organization with one of the longest tenures in West Virginia. Over these two decades, UniCare has been steadfast in its commitment to health equity, engaging directly with the community. This commitment has led UniCare to become the first managed care organization in the state to be awarded the NCQA Health Equity Plus Accreditation, a testament to our ongoing efforts to prioritize and enhance health equity for all our members. Our extensive community network, cultivated over 20 years, allows us to address not only the traditional healthcare needs of our members but also to support economic stability, educational opportunities, and other social determinants of health (SDOH).

Visitors to CCHS Riverside Health Center were greeted last week with no-cost delicious, nutritious produce from Gritt's Farm to take home to their families. This free "FARMacy" Program will visit CCHS Sissonville Health Center this Thursday, July 25, from 1-3 PM, or while supplies last. We couldn't do this without our partners! Thank you, Vandalia Health and UniCareWV for extending this program to the communities we serve.

Last month, UniCare became one of only four programs nationwide—and the first in West Virginia—to be honored with the 2023 NCQA Innovation Award. This accolade acknowledges the SWAT H2O program initiative, a trailblazing effort that guarantees access to clean and safe drinking water throughout West Virginia. We had some very hungry caterpillars at our recent Toddler Tuesday event at the Grand Central Mall in Parkersburg!  A large crowd showed up for our roll-and-read event, complete with crafts, activities, and of course healthy snacks for our young families! Toddler Tuesday events are an important way we help connect families to community resources and activities to promote resiliency and literacy for our little ones. We hope to see you at the next Toddler Tuesday at the Grand Central Mall on Tuesday, July 2nd.

Excited to share that we had an amazing time at the Parkersburg Library Fest! The grand celebration featured community organizations, vendors, and delightful entertainment, making it an incredible start to the summer season. Our Health Promotion Consultant was on-site providing essential safety education. Did you know how sunglasses can protect from cataracts? Attendees also learned about the importance of wearing helmets and life jackets. Here's to a safe, fun-filled, and educated summer. Thanks to everyone who made it happen!

For over 20 years, UniCare has been committed to developing innovations to better serve members, no matter where they are in the state. UniCare partnered with the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority to develop the field-based Community Paramedicine program, which combines telephonic case management with in-home outreach. Our partnership successfully engaged 84% of identified members, leading directly to improved health outcomes by connecting members with ongoing primary care, social support, and care coordination.

UniCare partners with Bonnie’s Bus, a mobile mammography unit from the West Virginia University Cancer Institute, to provide breast cancer screenings in rural areas across the state of West Virginia.
