As diehard lovers of all things Beer & Baseball, UNION proudly presents our contribution to the “Bronze Thunder Twins” national collaboration campaign. Created by Harlem Brewing Company and Metier Brewing in collaboration with the families of Josh Gibson and Buck Leonard, with hops sponsored by Yakima Chief, Bronze Thunder Twins IPA honors the first two Negro League players to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Catcher Josh Gibson, “known for booming home runs and an arm like a cannon,” led the Negro National League in home runs 11 times! His teammate, Walter “Buck” Leonard was selected for 13 Negro League All-Star games and was widely considered one of the best first baseman in Negro League history. Together they were known as “The Thunder Twins”. Bronze Thunder Twins IPA is classic example of a West Coast-style IPA. Aromas of Grapefruit and grass cover the bases, with a soft floral hit and a present bitterness balanced by a slightly sweet finish. A portion of the proceeds of all Bronze Thunder Twins IPAs will go to benefit the Josh Gibson Foundation & Buck Leonard Association. Their respective missions aim to foster academic and athletic programs within their communities. Look what got a makeover! After a decade on the scene - the UNION journey continues. If you’ve been paying close attention, you may have noticed some design changes to our core brands. Over the summer, we’ve been slowly releasing our new looks. Years in the making, today begins the official launch of our refreshed look to our year-round cans. Over a decade ago, as we entered the beer market, we wanted to create brands that were built to last - brands that reflected our approach to brewing - with one foot in the past, and one foot stepping towards the future. An iconic look, that felt like it had always been there and at the same time, was fresh and new. Our core brands, the ones that we brew all year long, are the heart and soul of UNION and as some great beers have come and gone within the family over the years, we think our current line-up is some of the best beer we’ve ever made. And they deserved a little glow-up. Our refreshed branding shouldn’t look all that unfamiliar. We worked carefully with former Baltimore creative, Nolen Strals, to preserve the soul of our original design aesthetic, and bring it in alignment with our current and future goals. Each brand within the core line now features its own unique personality through bold color, custom typography, and sharp story-telling elements. Keeping the overall look and feel as classic as it always was and allowing each brand’s unique story to truly shine, this is a new beginning for our beloved brews. Over the next few weeks, as these new cans begin to get filled and hit the stores, we’ll dive deeper into each brand’s unique identity. We’ve always said that every can of UNION beer, regardless of where it goes, is a liquid postcard, with love and pride from Baltimore. Forever Merriweather ✌️ “Merriweather Post Pavilion was set to close twenty years ago, but a group of friends and live music fans teamed up with local politicians and promoters to save, rejuvenate, and eventually acquire the storied venue. In 2003, under the name “Save Merriweather,” a handful of friends in their mid-20s organized a grassroots campaign that blossomed into a community movement to preserve the venue. Ultimately, this effort led to a comprehensive renovation of the venue and a transfer of its ownership to the nonprofit Merriweather Arts and Culture Center, helmed by Ian Kennedy, one of the movement’s founders. Not only has the venue been physically re-made under MACC’s ownership, but it has also become a hub of community, culture, and civic life—a callback to the vision of Merriweather’s creation in 1967 and an appropriate role for a venue that sits in the heart of Columbia, Maryland’s thriving urban core.” – Source Merriweather Arts & Culture Center When Ian Kennedy, co-founder of Save Merriweather and Executive Director of the Merriweather Arts and Culture Center, asked us to brew a special beer to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Save Merriweather, we jumped at the opportunity. Merriweather Post Pavilion has been the site of some of our most cherished summer memories since we were teenagers attending our first live concerts. Hanging in the old lots, relaxing on a blanket on the lawn, or holding our spot in the pit for hours before the headliner, MPP holds a very special place in our hearts.
