Established in 1969, the United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc. (USET) is a non-profit, inter-Tribal organization serving thirty-three (33) federally recognized Tribal Nations from the Northeastern Woodlands to the Everglades and across the Gulf of Mexico. USET is dedicated to enhancing the development of Tribal Nations, improving the capabilities of Tribal governments, and improving the quality of life for Indian people through a variety of technical and supportive programmatic services. Last week, the Trinity College gathered with Yootay Singers of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation as they performed their traditional Tribal songs of the Eastern Woodlands in a Northern style. They known as culture ambassadors for their Tribal Nation. https://ow.ly/fYsf50THMkW

Immediately after Helene hit, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians set up food and water distribution centers for Cherokee people affected by the floods. But as of last week, the main focus has been supporting the emergency response in the state’s most-affected counties. Each day, the Tribal Nation is sending at least 20 trucks and trailers full of supplies from their territory on the Qualla Boundary into the surrounding region. Many of these supplies were donated by other federally recognized Tribal Nations. https://ow.ly/GgB150THN0q

Buildings at the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, as well as local law enforcement, are now aglow with purple in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Maliseet Advocacy Center placed trees adorned with purple lights in front of the buildings. https://ow.ly/Iu8t50TCrTO
