Lexie's journey hasn't been easy, but she's never let anything hold her back. Despite the doubts and challenges, she persevered and enrolled into the United States Truck Driving School where she is taking online classes, passing written tests, and logging hours behind the wheel. She acknowledges that truck driving isn't a typical career choice for women, let alone for someone with her physical challenges. But she's not just breaking barriers; she's shattering them. Recognizing #51 of 100 #UnsungHeroes — retired US Army Infantry Colonel, Charles Hodges Jr. Chuck served 27 years on active duty, completing his career as the Commander of Joint Base Lewis McChord - the largest operational joint base in DOD. Colonel Hodges commanded at multiple levels including leading 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry as part of the Army’s first Stryker Brigade Combat Team. With nearly 3 decades of #ActiveDuty service and combat deployments to Iraq — Chuck fundamentally understands the challenges service members face at every rank when they leave the military. And he never missed a beat continuing his service post transition. Assuming the role of Senior Director of Events and Programs, and then Executive Director at Hiring Our Heroes, Chuck helped take HOH to the next level, working with employers and military installations to connect tens of thousands of transitioning service members and military spouses with career opportunities. Simply put, Chuck brought and executed one of the most successful and impactful programs in the history of HOH — the Corporate Fellowship Program. Having big ideas is one thing — It takes actions to turn a vision into #reality. Chuck had both in abundance, spending literally thousands of hours traveling the globe — teaching young transitioning #Veterans how to find meaningful employment. From my own experiences running 3 nonprofits, it is difficult to believe Chuck was able to sustain such a grueling pace for so long, other than his complete dedication and utter commitment to our community and our mission. Chuck now serves as the President of the Education and Training Division of TransForce, a role he’s held since August 2022.  He and his team run The CDL School, Troops Into Transportation, and the United States Truck Driving School, graduating thousands of new CDL drivers each year for the Transportation Industry. While we never served together in uniform or at HOH, my admiration and gratitude for what Chuck has done for our community runs deep. His accomplishments and contributions to the Veteran employment space are not only noteworthy — like so many other extraordinary leaders they are often #unsung.
