About us

The United States War Dogs Association exists to provide a lifetime of practical support to Military Working Dogs; their handlers and adopted families. It is also our mission to honor MWD service by promoting their unique work, educating the public about their invaluable service and establishing permanent memorials to the War Dogs who have served our country faithfully. The team at USWDA is made up of veteran and current serving members of the K9 community, giving us a unique insight into the work, needs and requirements of MWDs, both in their service and in their retirement.

  • We always love to share what our team has been up to and it's fair to say that this summer has been packed full all the things we do best! Our president, Chris Willingham, has penned a round-up of all the action from July, August and September, including: ✨ Support provided to our MWDs - active and retired ✨ Heading out to spread the word about our mission ✨ Supporting some key fundraising campaigns that help to keep the wheels turning Click the link to read all about it: https://lnkd.in/esMd9_9F Thank you to all those who have supported us this summer - we appreciate you more than you know. • Spreading the good word of War Dogs 🐾 Our team loves heading out into the community to highlight the role of our nation's MWDs and the support that we are honored to provide to them. Our president Chris Willingham was recently invited to Curtis Bay, MD, to give the keynote speech for W. R. Grace ‘s Veterans Employee Resource Group - GVETs. As a national organization with 4,500 employees, we love to see veterans being supported by their civilian employers in this way and afforded the opportunity to honor their service and that of other military personnel, so it was a true honor for Chris to be involved in the event. Chris shared stories of his time as a Marine Corps dog handler, as well as sharing our vital mission with those who gathered to support the event. Support from the employees was incredible and Grace made a generous donation to show their appreciation for Chris and War Dogs' work. Thank you to GVETs for hosting us and helping us to spread the word about the support that we provide to MWDs - active and retired. A special thank you to Grace CEO Ed Sparks and Tracy Pogue and her team, for facilitating our visit. • Happy Thanksgiving, K-9 Family! It's Chris here, president of US War Dogs. To all our service members who are overseas or away from their families this Thanksgiving, you're in our thoughts and prayers today - thank you for your service to our country. I wanted to take this chance to say a humble and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported our mission in some way this year. Whether it's sharing our posts, donating to our cause or spreading the word about us so we can extend our reach and help more MWDs - active and retired. Our organization has been in existence since 2000 but thanks to you, we are able to do more than ever before to support this community and honor our nation's war dogs. A couple of my personal highlights from this year include: ✨Commemorating K-9 Veterans Day at a special ceremony in Washington D.C in March ✨Adding a record 125 retired MWDs to our Rx Program in less than 11 months, taking the total number of dogs we support with prescription medications to over 1,200 ✨Continuing to support retired MWDs with our Emergency Care program, saving veteran handlers over $98,000 in emergency treatments for their K-9s We keep growing and looking for new ways to support this community, but we couldn't do it without your generosity and support. So this year, I am thankful for you - our supporters - along with my amazing team, that help keep the wheels of this organization turning. Cheers to y'all and K-9 leads the way! #thanksgiving #turkeyday #usmilitary #mwd #doghandler #nonprofit #veteranssupportingveterans

  • We’re honored that Vortex Optics is raising money for our cause during November. All proceeds from the sale of Vortex-branded collars will go towards supporting our vital mission. As part of the campaign, our president Chris Willingham, recorded a podcast with Vortex to talk in more detail about all things K-9. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eMriNA-H Meanwhile, please enjoy our glamorous models, Anton and Jack, patrol and explosive detection dogs from Eileson Air Force Base, Alaska, sporting the collars in question 🐶 #k9leadstheway #mwd #nogreaterfriend #noworseenemy #usmilitary

  • Four of our US War Dogs team members had the honor of attending the 10-year rededication of the Military Working Dog Teams National Monument aboard Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. It was a great turnout and wonderful to see so many people come together for this special event. The K-9 community is a special family and we are honored to be a part of it. K-9 leads the way! *Pictured is Chris Willingham, Chuck Rotenberry, Alex Schnell, Aaron Stice and retired MWD MMechelaar who is on our RX Program.
