Deputy Director at United Tenants of Albany

Thank you Canyon Ryan and my UTA family for the Work-versary love. It is very much appreciated. I started out on the UTA board and realized I could AND wanted to do so much more for the community. My first year began during the COVID shut down, however, my computer was stubborn and people needed help, so I drove and met clients at Stewart's, Dunkin Donuts, their homes, or the park. My 1st year anniversary I was promoted to Program Manager. My 2nd year I was promoted to Deputy Director. I am blessed to be here celebrating 4 years of service! I am so honored to have a position that allows me to lead others and build a team that will continue the work after I am gone. "Treat others like in the blink of an eye your lives could be swapped." That's my motto. **The snakes on the card are my reptile babies. Nice touch, Canyon! 😉

  • Let us take a look at the work of Leona Smith and Ron Casanova today ♥️ and pay homage to the footprints that they left on the road to Housing Justice.

National Union of the Homeless (NUH) President Leona Smith & leader Ron Casanova at the "Housing Now!" march on Washington DC. NUH organized in over 70 cities in the 1980s as a response to significant rollbacks in government spending on housing under Reagan, and coordinated squats in HUD owned buildings that were often empty.

  • Philip Randolph: A prominent civil rights leader and labor organizer, A. Philip Randolph was a key driving force behind the fight against housing discrimination. As the founder of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, Randolph fought for fair treatment and equal opportunities for Black workers. Activist Bayard Rustin stated, "No individual did more to help the poor, the dispossessed, and the working class in the United States and around the world than A. Philip Randolph."
