  • In 1951, Waco's Community Chest (the predecessor to United Way) rallied leaders and community members to champion local charity through the spirit of free enterprise. With optimism and good cheer, they opened doors and hearts, ensuring vital support for agencies serving our neighbors. As we look back on this history, we are reminded of the generosity that built the foundation for United Way of Waco-McLennan County’s ongoing work today. From youth programs to family services, the agencies that benefit from these efforts continue to make a lasting impact. Let’s celebrate the power of community and keep the spirit alive! 💙

  • Mayra Gutierrez is the assistant vice president and branch manager at Alliance Bank Central Texas. Her involvement with United Way has been an eye-opener for her. She did not realize how impactful United Way is to local nonprofits. One organization that stood out to her was The Family Abuse Center. Even though it receives state and local funding, without the support of United Way, it would not be able to provide three meals a day for the victims residing in the shelter. For anyone considering getting involved with United Way, Mayra believes it is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community and see the tangible impact of their efforts. She finds it inspiring to learn about the diverse organizations that United Way supports and to witness firsthand how these efforts create meaningful change.
