United Way Miami mourns the passing of Jack Lowell, a dedicated community leader, businessman and former United Way Miami Board member and supporter. As the executive vice president of Colliers South Florida and a devoted leader in various community organizations, Jack made a lasting impact on our community. His commitment to early education was especially meaningful as he and his wife Natasha are supporters of our Center for Excellence in Early Education, helping to uplift countless families. We send our deepest condolences to Natasha, their children, and all who knew and loved Jack. His contributions to United Way and our community will be remembered and honored. 🤍

Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend, impacting countless lives. In response, we’ve partnered with the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald, launching Operation Helping Hands, delivering vital relief and resources. 100% of donations will go directly to those in need. Building Resilient Communities is one of our Core Four pillars at United Way Miami. During these times, we’re reminded of the critical work we do to keep our community safe. 💙 We’re HERE to help. 🔗 https://bit.ly/47Newmq

At United Way Miami, we focus on helping families stay in their homes by providing emergency rent and mortgage assistance, foreclosure prevention and legal support. Today, our President and CEO, Symeria Hudson, delivered opening remarks at 'Priced Out of Paradise,' a panel hosted by The Miami Herald and WLRN Public Media. Moderated by Tom Hudson, the panel featured Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Florida State Rep. Vicki L. Lopez, Ned Murray and Peter Zalewski, discussing the pressing housing challenges in front of an engaged audience of 70 participants.
At United Way Miami, we believe #collaboration is key to addressing the complex challenges our community faces. Real change happens through partnerships and collective action. We’re proud to stand with over 60 partner agencies, working every day to ensure our community not only survives but thrives. Our work in housing has been focused on keeping people in their homes – whether through emergency rent and mortgage assistance, foreclosure prevention, or legal support. Around 250,000 households earn less than $35,000 a year, making the fight to keep a roof over their heads a constant battle. Many of these families are part of #ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) - hardworking individuals who can’t afford basic necessities despite their best efforts. This crisis impacts everyone—from childcare workers and home health aides to cashiers and older adults living on fixed incomes. The housing crisis has made #homeownership even more out of reach for countless #families and #homelessness has risen 12 percent as a result. Let’s continue to work together to find solutions that will help our community thrive for years to come. Special thanks to Tom Hudson, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Florida State Rep. Vicki L. Lopez, Ned Murray and Peter Zaleweski for leading today’s much-needed dialogue and to our hosts The Miami Herald and WLRN. #PricedOutOfParadise #WeareHereMiami #100YearsUnited #UnitedWayMiami #HousingAffordability #CommunityImpact #StrongerMiami
