Missed the Voces y Caras exhibit? No worries, you can still explore it online! 🌟 This ongoing digital oral history project, started in 2016 by University of North Florida students and led by Dr. Constanza López with support from the UNF Digital Humanities Institute and CIRT’s Michael Boyles, captures the voices and stories of North Florida’s Hispanic/Latinx community. Discover powerful interviews with members from diverse backgrounds—each story reflecting resilience, culture, and identity. Special thanks to students Korie Novaton and Mars Abinuman for their work in putting together part of the exhibit. Explore the stories here: https://lnkd.in/eeqtTpNF

On this Indigenous Peoples' Day, we not only honor the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Indigenous communities but also celebrate the active work being done to uncover their history right here in northeastern Florida. 🌿✨ More than 20 University of North Florida archaeology students, led by Dr. Keith Ashley, spent their summer excavating ancient shell mounds at the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve. Their research, in collaboration with the National Park Service, is shedding light on the lives of Indigenous people who inhabited the area over 1,000 years ago. From uncovering artifacts like Indigenous pottery to mapping human-made structures, their findings deepen our understanding of this land's earliest residents and their relationship with the environment. We are proud of the incredible work of Dr. Ashley and all of our students, whose dedication contributes to preserving and telling the stories of those who came before us.

🎉 A huge congratulations to Dr. Bryan Knuckley, Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, for being awarded the University of North Florida's Civility Award in recognition of his groundbreaking cancer research!🧬 Dr. Knuckley and his team were recently granted a U.S. patent for developing a targeted cancer-fighting compound that holds promise for treating difficult cancers like breast, colon, and lung. This incredible work could improve outcomes for patients battling aggressive cancers. We’re so proud of this achievement and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this life-saving research!
