As a female founder of a childcare company, it is crazy to think that when I was a toddler in childcare myself, women were still being required to have a man co-sign their business loan. Thirty-six years ago today marks the passage of the Women’s Business Ownership Act (WBOA) which prohibited state laws that required women to have a man co-signer to get a business loan. Since then, female entrepreneurship has skyrocketed and women now own 40% of businesses in the United States. In fact, the number of women-owned businesses over the last four years has increased at double the rate of those owned by men!
