EDA's J. Wesley Cochran recently participated in the Oregon Bioscience Association's Biotech Summit and spoke about the innovative efforts the Corvallis Microfluidics Tech Hub (CorMic), led by Oregon State University, is taking to develop and commercialize life science applications and the semiconductor industry’s transition to liquid cooling of integrated circuits, and other emergent microfluidics applications, by transforming Oregon into an internationally leading center for microfluidics research and manufacturing. #EDATechHubs #EconomicDevelopment #LifeSciences #Microfluidics
A favorite aspect of yesterday’s Biotech Summit was the span of generations that participated. During our Innovation Showcase, high school students from Valley Catholic School & SSMO Campus and Oregon Charter Academy pitched outstanding biotech proposals to attendees that included groups from Lakeridge High School and Hillsboro High School, biotech professionals, executives, and investors. Congratulations to our Innovation Showcase Winners: Lia Choi, Natanya Villegas, Matthew Rames, Matthew Bryant, Adam Tuttle, J. Peter Campbell. A big thank you to the Federal Innovation representatives for outstanding agency presentations and hosting informative lunchtime Resource Roundtables: Stephen Konya, Mark Byers, Beth Ripley, Angela Dunn, MD, MPH, Robert Wright, Haissum Shah, Julie Vanderkolk, John Bender, MPH, MS, Ashley Ashworth, plus Steve Thompson for Business Oregon. Kudos to J. Wesley Cochran (He/Him/His), Luiz Bertassoni, and Christie Dudenhoefer for a compelling overview of microfluidics and the CorMic Tech Hub in Corvallis. Hats off to our Showcase and Summit moderators and hosts: Nancy Lime, Jackie Wirz, PhD, Sally Bell, Holly Rockweiler, John Harkness, Ph.D., Tanis Morris, Tim Layton, and Kate Sinner. We appreciate the fine Oregon wineries that poured tastings at our evening Bio on the Vine reception: Archery Summit Winery, Argyle Winery, Domaine Divio, The Four Graces, Rex Hill Vineyards-Winery, Stoller Family Estate, and Tumwater Vineyard. Up next: Bio on the Rocks returns to The Porter in our beloved downtown Portland, November 14, 5 – 7:30 p.m.

Late post, but I'm excited to share that last week marked the official ribbon cutting and grand opening of The Riskind Building, a historic landmark in downtown that has been revitalized after years of being non-operational. This project aims to support economic development in our community by housing our Economic Development Department, a business incubator, community center, retail spaces, and a restaurant. Grateful for the $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration that made this project possible! Looking forward to the positive impact it will have on downtown and our community. Special thanks to our Mayor and City Council for their unconditional support and allowing us to bring meaningful projects to our City. In addition I would also like to thank our Economic Development team for their hard work in making this project a reality along with all the City departments that contributed to the project completion. Last but certainly not least, I want to thank our project architect, LPA, project engineer, Ardurra, and general contractor, Triun Construction for a successful project.
