#HispanicHeritageMonth is the perfect time to shine a light on the incredible work of Latino museums across the United States. 🏛️ IMLS’s American Latino History and Culture (ALHC) grant program has over $6 million available to support museums, programs, and exhibits celebrating Latino history and culture. Grants range from $5,000 to $500,000, and we encourage museums and programs of all sizes to apply. Preserve and amplify #LatinoHeritage—find out more and apply today! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eaATk4UV Photos courtesy of Riverside Art Museum. A cultural innovator, The Cheech is a dynamic community center as well as an artistic and scholarly hub, committed to redefining museum practices by centering the perspectives of a culturally vibrant community, historically disenfranchised from mainstream contemporary art museums. Photo 2: The Riverside Art Museum (including all of the trustees, staff, volunteers, community partners, and constituents it represents) along with partners Cheech Marin and the City of Riverside worked to launch this long-overdue center dedicated to Chicana/o/x art over the course of five years, one-half of that time during a global pandemic. Museum stakeholders remained determined to raise capital campaign funds to complete the cost-effective ($13.3 million total construction budget) renovation of the former main library, to navigate construction delays, to recruit and train staff, and to ultimately open the center to unprecedented number of attendees. Since its public opening on June 18, 2022, more than 100,000 people have visited the center. The Cheech is a testament of what a community can do when they pull together to uplift their collective values.
