We are the oldest federal law enforcement agency, and we enforce laws and investigate crimes involving the U.S. mail.
About us
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) is the oldest federal law enforcement agency, and we enforce laws and investigate crimes involving the U.S. mail. U.S. Postal Inspectors are federal law enforcement officers who carry firearms, make arrests, execute federal search warrants and serve subpoenas. Inspectors throughout the country enforce roughly 200 federal laws related to crimes that adversely affect or entail fraudulent use of the U.S. Mail, the postal system, postal employees and customers. To assist in carrying out our responsibilities, we maintain a uniformed force of Postal Police Officers who are assigned to critical postal facilities throughout the country. These officers provide perimeter security, escort high-value mail shipments and perform other essential protective functions. We also maintains a state-of-the-art forensic laboratory in Dulles, VA which contains highly trained forensic scientists and technical specialists. We are divided into 17 Divisions across the country and employ close to 2,500 professionals. Whenever we open hiring windows, we will announce them here and on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels. Safe and secure elections are a hallmark of American democracy. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is proud to be a part of this process by protecting Election Mail. This election season, many hours will be worked by Postal Inspection Service personnel in every state to ensure the secure handling of Election Mail. Please know that any threats made against election offices and election officials, including physical threats or hazardous materials being sent, will not be tolerated and will be taken seriously. We will continue to work closely with our federal, state, and local partners to investigate these incidents, enforce the laws, and prevent these crimes from occurring. Any law enforcement issues regarding Election Mail should be reported immediately by calling our hotline at 1-877-876-2455, or they can be reported online at https://lnkd.in/ermdYKCp. My gratitude goes out to Jen Easterly and the entire Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency for the incredible and important work they do each day. Working together with our many partners, we can ensure the public’s trust in the mail, including the secure and timely delivery of Election Mail. #USPIS #CISA #ProudtoProtect #ElectionSecurity #partnerships
