U.S.-grown tart cherries are superfruits with on-trend taste and science-backed benefits.

About us

The U.S. tart cherry research and promotion program is funded by the Cherry Marketing Institute and Cherry Industry Administrative Board, growers and processors who work together to increase demand for domestic tart cherries. Montmorency is the varietal of tart cherry most commonly grown in the U.S., primarily on family farms in Michigan, Utah, Washington, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Tart or sour cherries are a superfruit known for their unique sweet-tart flavor and distinctive nutrient profile. Scientific studies on tart cherries have included research on arthritis and gout, exercise recovery, sleep, heart health and gut health. Part of the growing appeal of tart cherries is a result of America’s changing palates – which are moving toward tart and sour flavors and away from sweet. This ruby-red stone fruit is a trending ingredient in food and beverage products, including nutrition bars, snacks, cereals, granolas, dairy products, packaged salads, juices and smoothies. Tart cherries are available year-round in dried, juice, canned and frozen forms for product developers.
