NEW: President Donald Trump plans to sign a long-awaited order tomorrow aimed at eliminating the Education Department, White House officials say. Trump will direct his education secretary, Linda McMahon, to take "all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return education authority to the States," according to a White House summary of the order reviewed by USA TODAY. The order also calls for the "uninterrupted delivery of services, programs, and benefits on which Americans rely." More details here:

President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke for the first time since an Oval Office blowup briefly led the U.S. to halt military and intelligence assistance to Kyiv. In a Wednesday call, the leaders discussed a partial ceasefire in Russia's war against Ukraine that would involve both countries refraining from attacking the other's energy infrastructure, including nuclear power plants and oil refineries.

The Federal Reserve took a wait-and-see approach to an uncertain US economy Wednesday, opting to leave interest rates unchanged at the close of its March meeting. That decision leaves the benchmark federal funds rate parked at a range of 4.25% to 4.5%, where it has sat since December. The Fed has now stood on the economy’s sidelines for two consecutive meetings, dating to January, after an unusually busy period of interest rate increases and reductions over the previous three years. The Fed also kept its forecast for two cuts in 2025. Jerome Powell, the Fed chair, will hold a press conference at 2:30 p.m. Investors and economists will parse his words for commentary on the direction of the economy. https://lnkd.in/dyrT_EMK

Most infant formulas tested by Consumer Reports during a recent investigation came back clear, though a few contain potentially harmful levels of lead and arsenic, which could pose health risks for young children, the organization said Tuesday. The Consumer Reports investigation also found per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs) in almost all the infant formulas it tested and one that contained both bisphenol A (BPA) and Acrylamide. In high doses, many of these substances can cause health issues, particularly for infants and younger children as they develop. But the makers of some of the infant formulas highlighted are challenging the investigation, its methods and results, pointing out that many of the substances are found naturally in the environment and that their formulas are safe. Why do people hate #federalworkers? From the Tea Party to MAGA, Americans resent the power that the government and civil servants have over their daily lives.
