USDA Invests $9 Million in 10 Organizations Nationwide to Support Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production USDA is investing nearly $9 million in funding to local organizations to provide outreach, education and technical assistance to urban agricultural producers in ten U.S. cities. FSA is partnering with To Improve Mississippi Economics (T.I.M.E.) to administer an urban farm outreach program offering subawards to community groups that work with producers in cities where FSA has established Urban County Committees. See a full list here: https://lnkd.in/eCQMpee4

In more than 2,100 offices across the U.S. and its territories, employees with USDA's Farm Service Agency help farmers and ranchers get the financing they need to start, expand or maintain a family farm. And when disaster strikes, FSA employees are there to help agricultural producers recover and rebuild. A Surprise Twist on Employee Appreciation Day Julia Wickard, the State Director of USDA FSA in Indiana, has always valued and recognized her employees’ efforts. Her team, in turn, wanted to show their appreciation for her exceptional leadership. During her annual tradition of taking employees to the Indiana State Fair on August 13th, Wickard was unexpectedly honored with an FSA Administrator award. Approximately 300 Indiana FSA employees had secretly nominated Wickard for the award, recognizing her exceptional leadership and dedication. FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux joined the event via teleconference to present the award and commend Wickard’s 11-year tenure. “The work you have done as the SED for 11 years in Indiana will outlast you and will transcend your time there,” Ducheneaux said. “You’re leaving an impact on producers and the FSA in Indiana that’s going to stand the test of time, and I truly appreciate the work you’ve done."
