NIFA supports projects that enhance opportunities for Native American students to pursue careers in agriculture and natural resources through a number of different programs. One program, the New Beginning for Tribal Students (NBTS) makes competitive grants to Land-grant colleges and universities to provide support specifically targeted for Tribal students. Studying abroad can be a life-changing experience for students by expanding their career options and providing invaluable skills and experiences. Through the NEXTGeneration Inclusion Consortium (NIC) Project, students from Tennessee State University had the opportunity to participate in international programs focusing on various agricultural sectors in countries such as Senegal, Kenya, England and Japan. Growing up, NIFA-funded researcher Dr. Mariangie Ramos was surrounded by green mountains, waterfalls and coffee farms in Utuado, Puerto Rico.
