About us
Welcome to the official LinkedIn page of the U.S. Fire Administration! As an entity of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, the mission of the U.S. Fire Administration is to provide national leadership to foster a solid foundation for our fire and emergency services stakeholders in prevention, preparedness and response. America’s fire losses today represent a dramatic improvement from more than 40 years ago. In 1971, our nation lost more than 12,000 residents and 250 firefighters to fire. Acting to stop these tragic losses, Congress passed the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act in 1974. It created the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) and the National Fire Academy (NFA). Since that time, through data collection, public education, research and training efforts, USFA has helped to reduce fire deaths and make our communities and residents safer.

Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell returned to western NC this week, joined by Brian Taylor, the NC State Fire Marshal. They checked in with rural fire departments outside Asheville to learn their needs, check on recovery, and organize assistance. At each fire department, Chiefs explained how volunteer, national, local, and responder organizations have assisted their communities. Despite so much devastation, people have shown up and helped, providing hope for the future.

St. Lucie County was prepared for #Milton, but instead of a hurricane, they got tornadoes. Public Safety Director Rangel (Ron) Guerrero and Chief Jeff Lee praised the firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, and police for immediately shifting their response. The 911 center received approximately 500 calls in the first 24 hours. Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell traveled to the Spanish Lakes area, a development of about 3200 mobile and fixed homes. Most of the residents are retirees. Areas of the neighborhood were hard hit, but despite the wreckage and the loss of friends and family members, the residents, like Rosie, were resilient. The Administrator encouraged residents to apply for FEMA assistance to help them rebuild.

"Clearwater Fire Rescue rescued 500 from a @Clearwater apartment complex as the recent storms pressed the Florida coast," according to their proud Chief and City Manager. Station 46 on Clearwater Beach relied on modern fire station design, opening the bay doors to allow the sand and water to come through the station. Once the storm passed, they removed the sand and cleaned up the station. In Sarasota, Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell viewed coastal damage from #Helene and #Milton from the Sarasota County Fire Department's fire boat. David Rathbun MPA, CFO was thankful for the Tinder Strike team from Naples, FL who helped to provide water to the islands. In each of the team's stops in Florida, Chiefs and firefighters shared how their brothers and sisters in fire and police have worked together to ensure their communities were safe.
