Our Field Operations Review Team of auditors visited three Postal Service delivery units and one processing and distribution center (P&DC) in Charleston, SC, to assess mail delivery operations and property conditions there. At all four facilities, they found delayed mail and issues relating to package scanning and compliance. They also found deficient property conditions at the delivery units, and issues with registry cage security at the P&DC and with arrow key security at one of the delivery units. Each year, Postal Service employees — especially mail carriers — risk illness and injury while working in extreme temperatures. Our auditors examined USPS’s safety programs, policies, and procedures for extreme hot and cold temperatures, as well as applicable controls for related training records. Some of our findings were positive, such as the protective supplies provided to carriers and the level of cold weather training. However, we found more can be done to ensure weekly safety talks and some safety materials are made available to carriers. Here are the details: https://bit.ly/3SSCIxf #USPSOIG #USPS #workersafety
