We congratulate the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for completing the difficult task of finalizing these updates to the Lead & Copper Rule and applaud the many water utilities around the country who are already leading and innovating on comprehensive solutions to address lead in water! #GetTheLeadOut

More than nine million lead service lines deliver water to families across the US. EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule improvements requires replacement of these pipes within the next 10 years. Every $1 billion invested in water infrastructure creates 15,000 jobs. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law invests nearly $26 billion that can be used for reducing lead in drinking water. EPA estimates that the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements will help protect millions of people across America from exposure to lead in drinking water. Partnerships are critical to a One Water approach. To build a secure, equitable water future for our nation, we must be willing to reach across industries, skill sets, party lines, and county lines—especially when resources, funding, and expertise are in short supply. Well-designed and community-led water system partnerships can be a helpful solution for communities facing worsening climate impacts, affordability challenges, lack of funding, and difficulty adapting their water systems to meet modern needs. But a successful community-driven approach relies on water leaders first understanding how to build support and buy-in within that community. To empower water leaders looking to champion regional partnerships, we developed a messaging toolkit informed by the latest studies on existing levels of community awareness, data around what motivates people to support regional partnerships, and a closer look at common concerns. Access our findings and messaging guidance here: https://lnkd.in/g5q5RPsm
