About us

UDOT’s vision is as simple and straightforward as our name. We aim to Keep Utah Moving. That includes everything from improving our roads and traffic lights to providing alternate means of getting from A to B, like bike lanes and public transit. We want to make sure that whatever is being moved, freight and cargo or the people in a vehicle, arrives safe and promptly. It isn’t easy, but Keeping Utah Moving is what keeps UDOT going.

  • Say hello to the brand-new electric vehicle charging station just outside Arches National Park! This is Utah’s first charging site partially funded through NEVI, a USDOT program that provides funding to states to strategically build EV charging stations. This milestone increases access for local residents and the millions of visitors traveling to Moab each year. We are the seventh state to open a NEVI-funded station, with plans for an additional 14 fast-charging stations across Utah. Special thanks to all our partners who contributed to this project. #NEVI #EV #ElectricVehicles #TeamUDOT

  • Meet a rest stop that doubles as a pollinator habitat. At the I-15 northbound Perry rest area, there’s a special plot of land that serves as a pollinator habitat. We encourage you to stop by, read the signs, and learn a little more about native plants and native bee species in our state. It was created in partnership with Utah State University who helps plan, plant and maintain this space. Did we mention they’re looking for more volunteers to get involved in the project? Learn more about it here: https://lnkd.in/egAiTWmT #Utah #TeamUDOT #Pollinators #PollinatorHabitat

  • It’s not every day you get a $20 million grant from the USDOT. Last week our team was awarded a $20 million grant to connect the west with vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology. V2X technology allows vehicles to communicate with drivers and their surroundings through sensors and wireless connectivity. It’s like giving vehicles a special language to communicate with traffic lights, signs, other vehicles, infrastructure, and even pedestrians using wireless signals. Soon you’ll be able to get alerts in real-time about potential hazards, sharp curves, adverse weather conditions, and road closures up ahead. Cars will automatically detect and adjust their speed to avoid collisions, buses behind schedule get extra green lights, and emergency vehicles receive priority passage. V2X technology will save lives. This investment is just the beginning. #TeamUDOT #V2X #V2XTechnology #connectedvehicle #transportation

Today we launched Keeping Utah Beautiful - our new volunteer litter program. While our crews regularly pick up litter around state roads, they also have a lot of other maintenance and safety responsibilities, and the truth is, we could use your help. Keeping Utah Beautiful, replacing the Adopt-a-Highway program, allows you to go online and sign up for a one-time cleanup on a specific state road. Each year our department spends an average of $2.3 million on litter pickup. And unfortunately, the litter keeps coming back. Today, the Governor lent a hand. Will you join us tomorrow?
