About us
Valley Water manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's nearly 2 million residents. The district effectively manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, three water treatment plants, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, nearly 400 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and more than 275 miles of streams. We provide wholesale water and groundwater management services to local municipalities and private water retailers who deliver drinking water directly to homes and businesses in Santa Clara County. In 2018, the water district was certified as a Great Place to Work®, and as the "Healthiest Employer in the San Francisco Bay Area" for companies with 500 to 1,999 employees.

Valley Water has released the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Design Level Geotechnical Investigations for the Pacheco Reservoir Expansion Project and is now accepting public comments. The Draft EIR complies with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), which requires public agencies to evaluate a project's potential impacts and identify steps to minimize those impacts. Valley Water proposes to conduct geotechnical investigations to help gather essential information about the soil and rock characteristics at the site. This information would be used to finalize the design of the proposed Pacheco Reservoir Expansion Project to reflect the improved understanding of geotechnical conditions. Valley Water is evaluating the Pacheco Reservoir Expansion Project as part of a separate CEQA analysis. You can review the Draft EIR online at https://lnkd.in/gHeTy54d. It is also available on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Valley Water's headquarters at 5700 Almaden Expressway in San Jose. Copies are also at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library reference desk at 150 E San Fernando St. in San Jose and the Gilroy Library reference desk at 350 W. Sixth Street in Gilroy. The public comment period on the draft closes on April 25, 2025, at 5 p.m. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/gUk2kvhB

Big things are happening with our population of Coyote ceanothus! During a routine visit to Coyote Ridge Preserve, our biologists observed the Coyote ceanothus in bloom and discovered new seedlings growing beneath the mature plants. This fresh growth is a strong indicator of our project's success. We planted thousands of new Coyote ceanothus at the preserve to protect this federally endangered, white-flowered shrub, which only grows in Santa Clara County. The largest population of this species is found near Anderson Dam, and our mitigation efforts here ensure its continued survival while we construct the new dam and spillway.

Valley Water is proud to announce the near completion of Phase 1 of the Coyote Creek Flood Protection Project. This project included the construction of over 8,500 feet of floodwalls along a four-mile stretch between Old Oakland Road and Interstate 280. The construction of floodwalls enhances Coyote Creek's capacity to manage increased water flow when water is released from the newly completed tunnel at Anderson Dam during storms or emergencies.
