We're cruisin' the headlines today. One shocking article that sticks out to us is... "The hidden health risk tearing through US hospitals that kills more than 100,000 people each year" by Oliver Trapnell. In it, you'll read that Healthcare-Acquired Infections (HAI) are the 4th leading cause of death among people in the United States of America. And the single biggest determinant of acquiring an HAI? The bed that the patient was in. Receiving care in a bed that recently housed an infected patient increases the chance of an HAI. This shows that environmental infection control is VITAL. Here at Varidyn, we are proud to partner with hospitals and outpatient facilities. We are experts at environmental #infectioncontrol and ALWAYS happy to share that expertise. We have strategy, product, toolkits, and more. Best part? We're just a click away! 😊 Message us anytime. Have a good weekend. -V

If you guessed 'd' for Tuesday's Test Question, you were correct! Answer: D. Rationale: When vetting a product through multiple staff members, items to look for include: 1.      Compliance with Standards, Guidelines, IFU, and institutional policy (i.e. “rules”) 2.      Clinical acceptability – do staff like it? 3.      Clinical effectiveness - can staff use the product appropriately to avoid harm 4.      Compliance with contracts or purchasing agreements What other reasons can you think of? Comment below! PLEASE NOTE: For the products we have here at Varidyn, we often have our customers test them out to make sure it’s a good fit. Whether it’s a biodegradable curtain, some disinfectant wipes, or even a hand hygiene dispenser, we care about the long-term value we can provide, whatever that looks like, or however that changes as time progresses.   Cheers! #infectioncontrol #infectionprevention #cic #apic

Wash your hands for how long? 15 seconds? 20 seconds? 20 to 30? Happy bday song? Yes... different organizations have different guidelines. From a regulatory perspective, if you say you're going to follow a certain guideline, you must train your staff to that guideline. If you put it in policy, you will be held to it. From a patient safety perspective, think of it not as a certain time constraint. Instead, think of it as: you should go through the steps of proper hand hygiene, and it should take 15...20... even 25 seconds if you're doing it right. Regarding alcohol based hand rub, it's typically a metered dose. The amount that is dispensed should keep your hands wet for about 20 seconds. We have dispensers that monitor certain data points. If you need guidance on anything related to #handhygiene please send a message. Whether you're #EVS #InfectionPrevention #SupplyChain or a #HealthcareExecutive we'd love to talk with you! -V

If you guessed B for Test Question Tuesday - you were correct! Rationale: Cardboard boxes truly can be a risk to hospitals. But they are also an important part of commerce. No regulatory agency currently completely forbids their use in a hospital setting. However, guidelines do exist on their handling. If you want more information, just reply below or send us a message! We can give some pointers, discuss hand hygiene dispenser placement, and even recommend disinfectant to cut back on some of the pathogens that cardboard brings in. #apic #cic #infectionprevention #infectioncontrol

#EVS #roomturnover times are a bit of a sore subject... Staffing, complex rooms, poor communication & peak discharge = 👎 We're working in the background to make EVS workers' lives easier. We have a 4-minute sporicidal. And we'll be developing some cool tech around it, so be sure you're "following" our page to stay tuned! Also - the tablets we provide make toilet cleaning easy - just drop the tablets in the water - 4 minutes later, C. difficile is gone...the water is the disinfectant. Finally, we have biodegradable/recyclable curtains that take 30 seconds to change! How else can we make your lives easier? Let's chat! -V #environmentalservices #hospitalleadership

Yes, it's a robot. Yes, it drives around the room and cleans. No...it's not a Roomba!... Remember on Wednesday we talked about getting that "Back to Basics" down perfectly? Well, what happens when your cleaning and disinfection seems immaculate but there's still disease transmission? Sometimes you need a "special approach" - especially in areas where patients don't have working immune systems. After #EVS provides immaculate cleaning and disinfection, add a high-powered UV light. 💡 These have been shown to kill pathogens, especially gram-positive bacteria... #infectioncontrol win. We like the one we sell because it moves itself around, cutting down on "shadows" where hiding pathogens would otherwise be safe. Hit the "like" button if your facility uses UV light! -V
