About us
The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association is a voluntary bar association established in Williamsburg in 1959, dedicated to enhancing the knowledge, skills and professionalism of trial lawyers and committed to improving the law and the fairness of Virginia’s system of justice. VTLA has approximately 2,100 members across the Commonwealth, representing clients in a large number of practice areas. VTLA paralegal/legal assistant members support our attorney members. The vast majority of our members own or work in small to midsized firms and spend a substantial portion of their time in the courtroom.

Today was a special day. Each year, VTLA and VADA take a moment out of our convention business to honor the best of the profession with a Civility and Professionalism for a member from the other organization. Today, VADA presented their award to Malcolm "Mic" McConnell. "Yes, ethics and Rules of Professionalism are important but the most important rule is the Golden Rule - treat others as you would have them treat you. That Rule does not hit a limit in the adversarial process of litigation in the Commonwealth of Virginia," Mic said in receiving the award. So it was great to take a moment, stop, and remember the greater ideals. We'd like to congratulate Mic as well as this list of outstanding lawyers who have received this uniquely special award over the past decade. John W. Zunka (VADA member) Thomas Curcio (VTLA member) Lisa Frisina (VADA member) John C. Shea (VTLA member) Alan Rashkind (VADA member) William Kilduff (VTLA member) Terrence Graves (VADA member) Irving Blank (VTLA member) Kathleen M. McCauley (VADA member) Stephanie Grana (VTLA member) Michael Harman (VADA member) Thomas Smith (VTLA member) Molly Priddy (VADA member) John Lichtenstein (VTLA member) Cal Thomas (VADA member) Tom Albro (VTLA member) Richard Ladd (VADA member) Thank you all for your continued inspiration.

Gratitude for the VTLA members who go the extra mile(s) to support the work we do. Special thanks to Andrew Sacks at The Law Firm of Sacks & Sacks in Norfolk. Andrew is a past president of VTLA and a lifelong member as his Dad Stanley (still practicing law at 100+ years old!) was one of VTLA's founding members. We are so grateful to his support of VTLA - representing the Sacks Family for generations!
