Campus master planning is an act of long-term stewardship, guiding institutions of higher education through growth and change that respects both immediate needs and future possibilities. At its core, a well-crafted master plan builds flexibility into the fabric of a campus, equipping institutions to adapt to the evolving demands of pedagogy, research, technology, student needs, and community expectations. This adaptability isn’t an afterthought but a fundamental principle that allows a campus to remain responsive to change without losing its sense of identity or purpose. Effective master planning is equally rooted in collaboration. The most successful plans emerge from diverse voices and perspectives — from students to faculty to community partners — each adding insight into the campus’ potential. This approach goes beyond listening — it’s about creating a shared vision that makes growth manageable yet meaningful. By combining adaptability and a deeply collaborative process, planning empowers campuses to thrive for generations of learners and leaders. 📸: 1 & 2 - Utah Tech University Campus 3 & 4 - Weber State University Campus 5 & 6 - Snow College Campus 7 - Brigham Young University–Hawaii Campus #MasterPlanning #CampusPlanning #HigherEducation #EducationDesign #VCBOArchitects

We’re proud of our deep-rooted connection with Brigham Young University. Recently, our very own Vern Latham, AIA, NCARB, a principal at VCBO and former inside linebacker for the 1984 national championship team, joined past players and staff at LaVell Edwards Stadium to celebrate 100 seasons of BYU football. He and more than 50 of his teammates were also honored at Friday night's game to conduct the ceremonial lighting of "the Y." Our firm has been privileged to partner with BYU on various projects — from shaping vibrant learning environments to crafting premier athletic facilities — and we look forward to continuing our work with the university. Congratulations to BYU on this milestone! #BYUFootball #BYUAthletics #Legacy #BuiltToThrive #VCBOArchitects

We had an amazing time at this year's IIDA Intermountain Design Remix! The chapter's annual fashion show and benefit pairs design firms with industry reps to create wearable art using interior design materials. This year's derby theme challenged participants to create a hat and accessory, and our team rose to the occasion! Representing VCBO, Crystal, Hana, Guillermo, and Michael created an incredible homage to derby stable hands, with a nod to our building's history as the Trolley Square stables — all crafted from carpet! We couldn't be prouder of the creativity and craftsmanship they brought to the event. A special shoutout to Madeleine for overseeing the entire event and to Morgan and Arielle for organizing and running a successful silent auction that raised funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Thank you to everyone who came out to support! We're honored to be part of such an inspiring and innovative design community. #InteriorDesign #MakeAWish #DesignCommunity #CreativeDesign #FunAtWork #Teamwork

In honor of World Habitat Day and the start of Urban October, our St. George office recently volunteered at a local Habitat for Humanity build for a family in need. The team helped frame the interior walls of a fully accessible home and had the chance to meet the homeowners — a meaningful reminder of how the spaces we create can truly make a difference. We are proud of our St. George team and their commitment to building stronger communities! #SocialResponsibility #UrbanOctober #HabitatForHumanity #ForPeopleToThrive

Last week, we hosted our 20th Annual VCBO Dodgeball Tournament, bringing everyone in our office together for some friendly competition and team building! Along with the dodgeball matches, we enjoyed ice cream floats to cool off and usher in the fall season. A big thanks to all who participated and continue to make this tradition a success. Here's to finishing out 2024 strong! #WorkHardPlayHard #OfficeLife #Community #VCBOArchitects

Exciting progress is happening at Brigham Young University–Hawaii! During the 2024 Ohana Meeting, the campus community received updates on the transformative McKay Complex replacement project. The latest renderings reveal more of the vision for replacing existing facilities with five new buildings that will reshape the heart of campus in the coming years. Since leading the master planning effort in 2020, VCBO has worked closely with university leaders to reimagine its spaces with flexibility, an enhanced student experience, and the university’s mission in mind — setting the course for the next 50 years. The more than 300,000-square-foot complex will house a welcome center, classrooms, offices, conference spaces, an auditorium, campus services, and vibrant student life spaces, all designed with architectural themes and forms that honor Hawaii’s cultural heritage. Building plans are currently in the review and permitting phase, with groundbreaking anticipated in the summer of 2025 and final completion in 2031. We are thrilled to see this monumental project continue to take shape and look forward to the transformation of the beautiful Laie campus. #HigherEducation #EducationDesign #CampusDesign #VCBOArchitects

A few weeks ago, VCBO proudly celebrated the groundbreaking of the University of Utah highly anticipated new baseball stadium, Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark. This stadium highlights the University of Utah’s commitment to enhancing its athletic facilities at the highest level. The design features a FieldTurf playing surface and permanent seating for 1,200 fans, along with additional grass berm seating in the outfield. The stadium will include essential baseball support spaces such as locker rooms, coaches' offices, medical facilities, equipment storage, and indoor batting and pitching cages, as well as a press box. Fan amenities will enhance the game-day experience and include concessions, restrooms, a ticket office, and merchandise areas. The new stadium is not only a significant investment in the university’s athletic future, but also a lasting contribution to the campus community that will foster pride and excitement for years to come. #VCBO #VCBOArchitecture #UofU #StadiumDesign

Happy World Architecture Day! This year, we are excited to celebrate engaging and empowering youth in urban design to create better urban futures. When we engage youth in the planning process for the buildings and facilities they use every day, it provides an opportunity for them to practice responsibility and involvement in their community from a young age. This is vital to creating urban areas that ensure accessibility for all ages and shape adults who are active participants in their communities. By engaging with youth in open houses and other community outreach events, we can involve youth in the planning and design process and give them input and investment in their homes and communities. #WorldArchitectureDay #WAD2024 #WorldHabitatDay #UrbanDesign #MasterPlanning #VCBOArchitects
