On a mission to drive excellence in smart healthcare across South-East Europe, with a focus on Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Cyprus, having the invaluable support of Sweden, Greece, and Spain! Over the next four years, until May 2027, we, a consortium of 15 dedicated organizations, are fully committed to transforming this ambitious project into a lasting legacy of transformative impact. At VELES, we recognize the pressing need for digitalized healthcare solutions based on advanced technologies. That's why we aligned with the Regional Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialisation (RIS3) in healthcare. Our aim is to leverage the potential of state-of-the-art technologies like Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) to empower personalized medicine, informed decision-making, and proactive disease prediction.

🚨 Dementia is a growing public health challenge in Europe. By 2030, an estimated 13.4 million people in Europe will be living with dementia, leading to costs exceeding €250 billion. 🔎 Dementia is already one of the leading causes of dependency and disability among older adults. The 2019 Global Burden of Disease Study reported 303,000 deaths and over 4 million Disability-Adjusted-Life-Years (DALYs) in the EU in 2019 due to dementia. Yet, many cases are misdiagnosed, diagnosed too late, or go undiagnosed entirely. In fact, the World Alzheimer Report 2016 estimates that only 50-60% of dementia cases receive a formal diagnosis. 💡 That’s why our pilot study in Cyprus is so critical. Using the power of the Regional Smart Health Data Space, we aim to revolutionize how dementia is diagnosed and managed. ✨ On October 1, 2024, the 3rd edition of the Semantic Interoperability in Data Spaces Workshop was held at the Danubius Hotel Arena in Budapest, Hungary 🇭🇺.
