This past August, I finished up an incredibly productive internship with Velvet Ice Cream Inc. I got involved with many aspects of the business, such as accounts payable and receivable, HR management, territory sales management, cold-calling, Logistics management, freezer inventory systems, and delivery merchandising. Summer 2024 is definitely one to remember!

We are honored to share an incredibly insightful article by Doug Stout, historical columnist for the Newark Advocate, which delves into the rich history of Ye Olde Mill, our home in Utica, Ohio since 1960. Among the fascinating stories, Doug highlights Ye Olde Mill as a stop for African Americans fleeing slavery in the South during the 1800s. Despite the controversial Fugitive Slave Act, which mandated that northern states cooperate with the South in capturing escaped slaves, brave individuals along the Underground Railroad continued to provide aid and safe passage, fully aware of the repercussions. We take immense pride in the historical significance of Ye Olde Mill. Constructed in 1814, the property has always been a community gathering place. In its early days as a humble sawmill, citizens would congregate to discuss the news of the day. Over the years, the site has transformed, hosting three different mills, a roller skating rink, a swimming pool, a dance hall, and now, of course, serving as Velvet Ice Cream's headquarters.
