Protecting pollinators and reducing water use are important ways you can conscientiously landscape this fall. Verdani recommends the following solutions that commercial real estate properties can implement to support vital pollinators and achieve more sustainable landscapes:   - Leave the Leaves: fallen leaves provide shelter for pollinators; by allowing them to remain, you're helping to promote biodiversity.   - Planting Season for Wet Winters: fall is an optimal time to plant native species; impending precipitation can help plants grow while reducing your water usage and costs.   - Adjust Irrigation: our plants require less water on shorter fall days; adjust your watering systems accordingly!

🌍 **Reflections on the UN Summit: Decarbonizing the Built Environment** 🌱 A huge thank you to **@TheEnergyCoalition** for inviting me to participate in the **UN Summit on Decarbonizing the Built Environment**! It was an honor to stand alongside global leaders and represent **@VerdaniPartners** and the private real estate sector in these vital conversations. The discussions were not only inspiring but also action-driven, focusing on the immediate steps we must take to tackle the global climate crisis. Key takeaways included: - **Adopting outcome-based regulations**: Moving beyond prescriptive codes and fostering innovation in building design and construction. - **Scaling renewable energy adoption**: Using policy and **carbon pricing** to incentivize renewables and accelerate our transition away from fossil fuels. - **Prioritizing equity**: Ensuring that **low-income communities** benefit from decarbonization, both in terms of financial savings and job creation. - **Leveraging smart technologies**: Integrating **AI-driven systems** to optimize building energy use and promote **smart grid** engagement. At **Verdani** and through the **@Verdani Institute for the Built Environment (VIBE)**, we are deeply committed to implementing these strategies. We work daily with global portfolios to drive sustainability, achieve **net-zero** targets, and create equitable decarbonization pathways. Thank you to all the incredible participants for the insightful discussions and to learn about your research and incredible work that this group is doing to solve the climate crisis. We all need to work together to decarbonize the built environment for a more sustainable, healthy, resilient and equitable world! #ClimateAction #Decarbonization #UNSummit #Sustainability #BuiltEnvironment #NetZero #GreenBuildings #Verdani #VIBE #TheEnergyCoalition #GlobalSolutions

What a surreal experience. Last week The Energy Coalition hosted the The Enniscorthy International Forum and Buildings Action Coalition - a group under the UN Environment Programme. We gathered 50 people from around the world to address the most aggressive global climate initiative - the Buildings Breakthrough Target. Here is the top-level takeaway. I invite participants to share their top thoughs below. The confluence of societal objectives centers in buildings but is not simply about widgets and measuring carbon emissions. A functional transition cannot be mandated, engineered, or imagined - it must be accepted by society as a significantly better outcome that is DESIRED, ACCESSIBLE, and URGENT. As proud partners of Net Zero Buildings Week (NZBW) New Buildings Institute, we are excited to invite you to explore our new Corporate Sustainability Strategies Guidance Report, designed to help businesses, particularly in the real estate industry, navigate the path toward sustainable operations. 🌍 In line with NZBW's mission to foster collaboration and innovation for net-zero buildings, our guidance report provides a practical template for integrating corporate sustainability practices. With the increasing pressure from regulations, investor and occupant demands, and the urgency of addressing climate change, it's more crucial than ever for real estate companies to establish a clear approach to sustainability and ESG. However, many companies struggle without a standardized order of operations for these initiatives. This is where our report steps in—offering a customizable framework that empowers businesses to integrate sustainability at every level. Whether you're looking to reduce carbon footprints, meet regulatory requirements, or enhance investor and occupant trust, our guidance provides the foundation you need. Although developed with the real estate industry in mind, the principles and processes are relevant for businesses across sectors. We invite you to read our guidance report and discover how it can help you take actionable steps toward a more sustainable future. Together, we can drive the real estate industry's transformation toward net-zero and beyond.: https://lnkd.in/gTYhwuAE #ZeroEmissions #NetZeroBuildingsWeek #NetZero #Decarbonize #NetZerobuildings #DecarbonizeBuildings

𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - here are some ways that you can help conserve energy, maximize efficiency, and reduce your footprint: 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞  Avoid phantom power consumption by shutting down unneeded appliances. Even in “sleep mode,” office equipment uses power. Simple solution—unplug unneeded appliances or switch off central power strips to save energy and money. Adjust the thermostat to find the sweet spot between comfort and savings. The interior space does not need to be an icebox or a sauna, especially while occupants are out—so shut down the AC when away and adjust the temperature gradually to avoid unnecessary spikes in energy consumption and utility spend.    𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞   Make smart energy choices when shopping for home and office appliances. Appliances recognized as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2024 are anywhere from 10-80% more efficient than conventional models, helping save energy and money over the long term.   LED lights are brighter and less energy intensive than traditional models. Providing quick return on investment (ROI) and safer working conditions, LED lighting should be the go-to standard for lighting retrofits and new buildouts.     𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬  Over 12% of global electricity generation came from wind and solar in 2022, a nearly 80% increase since 2001. This surge has expanded customer options for clean energy. Check your utility's website for available renewable energy programs. Creative energy procurement options exist outside of local utility plans. If on-site energy systems are infeasible, virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) present another vehicle to take advantage of off-site renewable energy generation. Discover available options to use VPPAs for advancing energy and sustainability objectives.
