    If you are considering an embedded or direct commercial relationship with another business, how important is it for you to know how the relationship will end before it ever begins? How will this relationship impact your finances and reputation? For lenders and service providers, that type of insight is everything. So is it possible? If you are like most businesses working with small to midsize businesses, you know how important traditional KYB data is. But that information on its own is no longer enough. Today’s commercial lenders and service providers need to consider three areas of focus when evaluating new SMB partners: 🙋 Identity: Can you verify the business registration, ownership structure, and legitimacy of the business entity? Consider data points like registration with the secretary of state, being properly licensed to do business, a history of bankruptcy, liens, or judgments, and if the correct owner/principal is associated with the business. ⭐ Customer Sentiment: What are customers saying about the business and their experience working with it? Consider data points like reviews on Yelp, Google, or the Better Business Bureau, and be sure to look for any lawsuits against the company.. 🗂️ Past Behaviors: Has the business worked with other peers in your space? If so, it’s important to determine whether that was a positive or a negative experience. For example, consider how long the relationship lasted, whether or not there were any issues, and who ended the relationship (and why). While identity and compliance checks are standard, adding data points around financial stability and reputation are key for identifying the most successful relationships from the very beginning. As we have been building these exciting new solutions for providers that serve SMB's it struck me just how much we need to help the SMB's. We need to protect SMB's from those that attempt to impersonate them by stealing available public data and imitating a business, and we need to help them by creating a platform where the best performers can stand out from the crowd and be rewarded for their hard work and good decisions.
