Data-Driven Claims For Sustainable Agriculture
About us
At VeriFi, we are making sustainability the best climate and financial business model for all stakeholders. We have proven that interoperable farm-level data automation and transaction can increase profits and ROI for brands, farmers, and investors while producing transparent and auditable environmental and social impact. Our data refinery enables sustainability programs to scale with high-integrity claims and improved economics. There should be no need for tradeoffs in sustainability integrity and cost if data and technology are leveraged properly to design to value.

What solves this is 100% farm-level data for validated and verified transparency. Come talk to us about how this can be effectively, scalably, and cost-efficiently be done!!
💬 WHO AUDITS THE AUDITORS? My latest newsletter asks... exactly that. After the news about Better Cotton and Zara declaring a "breach of trust", I started thinking about why brands put so much blind trust in third-party certification schemes and why they seem so shocked when they fail. "A whole cottage industry now exists for companies looking to outsource their ethical responsibility, and we’ve yet to question why that is, and who’s profiting." Fashion is determined to outsource their sustainability, if only so they can wash their hands when something goes wrong. Whether we'll allow this cycle to continue, or whether legislation will offer some solution, is anyone's guess. Read more below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eH2XcQ3f

This farm and others like it are what we tech enable to validate and verify the practices and outcomes that are saving the planet, giving value to consumers, increasing farmer revenues, and driving profits for companies. Hard to beat win-win-win-win outcomes.
De-commodifying agriculture and creating a more just food system through ecological and social regeneration.
Can you believe that this is a high-yielding farm? There is an unfortunate misconception that regenerative agriculture reduces yields because of increased competition between plants. Yet, this photo from the Regenerative Rubber Alliance - in partnership with Vans, Timberland, The North Face, NFW, other brands, ~1000 incredible farmers, and Terra Genesis - demonstrates that regeneration truly is about abundance and life. This farm, which nearly represents a jungle, has the same or higher latex/rubber yields as a conventional monoculture rubber plantation, and it also is growing significant yields from crops that produce coffee, herbs, medicines, foods, and textiles for home and market use. It is quite incredible that a production system generating major global exports simultaneously contributes to local food security and food/medicine sovereignty. Forever grateful to be involved in this project. Photo caption: Regenerative Rubber Agroforestry farmer leaders, Chorthip, Nata, and Pai, explore an area of mature forest garden in Ban Muang, Phatthalung as part of a training led by Dr. Uraiwan of Thaksin University. This training focused on finding common criteria and methods for evaluating the level of regeneration of forest garden systems by looking at canopy structure, plant diversity, and the maturity of the agroecological system, among other criteria. De-commodifying agriculture and creating a more just food system through ecological and social regeneration.
In an evolving industry with high expectations for quantified eco-social impacts, there are a lot of conflicting opinions on the best pathway forward. And amongst all of the commotion and conflicting opinions on what is “best”, producers are stuck right in the middle. This article explores how this particular issue is showing up in the cattle grazing industry. When addressing systemic issues such as the impact of raising cattle and purchasing beef, leather, and suede, working in silos is not only ineffective; it is counterproductive. In navigating complex systems-level challenges, a whole system of stakeholders needs to be engaged. The work of OpenTEAM aims to empower communities and diverse stakeholders to design solutions for themselves; this approach is as uncommon as it is essential to creating accessible and equitable technology solutions in the agricultural sector. In this article, I reflect on the phrase “It’s not the cow, it’s the how”, to not necessarily interrogate the impact of cattle grazing itself, but instead to challenge the industry to consider HOW they seek to answer that question in the first place. This phrase encourages us to consider that our process has an outsized influence over the effects of our work. Check out this quick read below to learn more about my recent work in partnership with Terra Genesis and OpenTEAM. #regenerativeagriculture #grasslands #beef #communityengagement #soilcarbonsequestration #collaboration #communitycentereddesign #opensourcetechnology #agriculture #impactmonitoring
