As part of several policy updates finalized in August 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services endorsed the concept of “fit-for-purpose” (FFP) studies and announced plans to issue a FFP study guidance document. To help inform this forthcoming guidance and contribute to ongoing dialogue around the role of FFP studies in the context of coverage with evidence development for emerging medical technologies, experts, including Verily’s Caroline Marra, provide a framework for FFP study design and data source selection. The work is published in two parts in Health Affairs Forefront: https://bit.ly/4fnBD9u and https://bit.ly/3UsEdDg #ClinicalStudies #ClinicalEvidence #HealthData

We had an incredible week at HLTH USA boldly showcasing our solutions and how we’re turning health data into precision health action. Some highlights: 💫 In partnership with wastewater epidemiologists and treatment facilities, we monitored the wastewater at HLTH and the surrounding Las Vegas area for 8 different pathogens. Sign up to receive the post-event report: https://veri.ly/4f6HHmK 💫 Verily leaders spoke about advancing health equity. Understanding a patient’s context - their race, conditions, and socioeconomic background - allows us to treat them as an individual. We shared a new AI-based reinforcement learning approach that can be applied to drive more equitable health outcomes. 💫 We previewed Verily Lightpath,* a chronic care platform that will turn health data into personalized, proactive care to help people with diabetes, obesity and other metabolic conditions live healthier lives. Thank you to everyone who met our team at the event. We’ll see you next year! #HLTHUSA #PrecisionHealth #HealthEquity #HealthData *To be available in 2026

It was great to spend a few days in Vegas with the Verily team at HLTH USA. Here are a few of my takeaways from the event: There was a lot of excitement on the floor (and in the bathrooms!) around our wastewater monitoring activation at the event. Check out the latest data on community-level rates of 8 different pathogens during HLTH: https://lnkd.in/gn3ZnVy2 I enjoyed seeing how innovators are using AI, specifically generative AI, to activate data, improve patient care, and address physician burnout. Looking ahead, 2025 is already shaping up to be quite an exciting year for Verily and the broader industry. What was top of mind for you at the event?

Verily has been monitoring the wastewater from the Clark County Water Reclamation District plant in #LasVegas in partnership with the Southern Nevada Health District this week during the HLTH USA conference. But Tyler Trueg and I got this upclose look to the path that the water takes from the Strip to the plant thanks to Edwin Oh and his team at #UNLV today. Amazing that this infrastructure is under our feet and that we can learn so much about the health of our community by analyzing it to detect, quantify, and sequence pathogens. Vindell Washington, Chief Clinical Officer and Head of Health Equity Verily shared valuable insights at HLTH USA on advancing health equity through DEI principles. During the panel discussion, he emphasized the importance of purposeful and standardized design to ensure that no communities are left behind. Vindell highlighted the significance of focusing on the individual, referring to it as the "N of 1." He stressed the importance of considering factors such as race, conditions, and socioeconomic backgrounds when providing patient care at the individual level. “We need to know more about the individual. We call it the N of 1. We don’t ignore race or conditions or socioeconomic backgrounds when assessing patient care at the individual level.” Engaging session top to bottom with inspiring speakers shedding light on crucial aspects of #healthequity and #precisionhealth.
