Today we had the pleasure of hosting Michelle Manook, CEO of FutureCoal Limited, for an insightful discussion on #coal from a #global perspective – an important yet often overlooked topic. Michelle joined FutureCoal in 2019 and previously held senior roles at Orica, Archer Energy, LLC, Brockman Mining Limited, and Woodside Energy. As CEO, she leads FutureCoal’s mission to support key players across the coal value chain and advocates for balanced and inclusive #international energy policies that respect the sovereign rights of coal-producing and coal-consuming nations. We were delighted to visit with Michelle.

Happy #VeteransDay to all who served and Happy #RemembranceDay for our British, Canadian, and Australian friends. Today (and every day), we thank you and your families for your service and sacrifice. With the #election behind us and the transition of a new administration on the horizon, we brought together three esteemed friends of the firm and previous #COBT guests for a Special Edition of COBT. We wanted to brainstorm with them what happens next in energy policy-making. We were honored to host Anne Bradbury, CEO of the American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC), Bill Flores, CPA, Vice Chairman of ERCOT, former Congressman, and Veriten Senior Advisor, and Maria Korsnick, CEO of the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI). Each of these leaders has been a strong advocate for energy in #Washington and brings deep insight into the complexities of #energy #legislation. Arjun Murti, Brett Rampal and Maynard Holt were thrilled to join and hear their immediate reactions and perspectives on what the incoming administration could mean for the future of energy.

Welligence is delighted to welcome Arjun Murti, Partner of Veriten and publisher of Super-Spiked, to the Board of Directors. Arjun brings extensive experience to Welligence having spent over 30 years on Wall Street as an equity research analyst, advisor, and board member covering the global energy sector. Since November 2021, Mr. Murti has published Super-Spiked, a Substack newsletter and podcast about the messy energy transition era.   The bulk of the first 22 years of his career was spent at Goldman Sachs, where he retired as a Partner in 2014 while also serving as Co-Director of Americas Equity Research and as an Equity Research Analyst. Prior to joining Goldman in 1999, Mr. Murti was a buy-side Equity Research Analyst at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. His career began in 1992 at Petrie Parkman & Co, a Denver-based oil & gas boutique investment bank.   In addition to his role at Veriten, Mr. Murti is currently serving as a Director of ConocoPhillips, a Senior Advisor to the Energy Group at Warburg Pincus, and as an Advisory Board member for Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy, ClearPath, and the India Advisory Board at The Nature Conservancy. Mr. Murti previously served on the board of RS Energy Group, which is now part of Enverus. Welcome to the team, Arjun!

I am beyond excited to formally welcome Arjun Murti to the Welligence Energy Analytics Board! Arjun's experience, wisdom, and, above all, his enthusiasm for the energy industry are a huge boost for our company as we continue to expand into new areas. Arjun and I first crossed paths nearly a decade ago at Warburg Pincus, and since then, I have followed his newsletter and podcasts on everything related to energy (highly recommend subscribing to Super-Spiked if you don't already). It's a true full-circle moment to be working together again! Welcome aboard, Arjun!

Today we had the honor of hosting Senator John Cornyn of Texas, who has served in the US Senate since 2002 and is now in his fourth term. Senator Cornyn has been a steadfast advocate for #Texas interests and supports policies that promote responsible domestic traditional #energy #production while exploring new energy sources to strengthen US energy #independence. Senator Cornyn has held several key #leadership roles including #Republican #Whip and currently serves on the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees. Before joining the #Senate, Senator Cornyn served as a district judge, a member of the Supreme Court of Texas and Texas Attorney General. We were thrilled to connect with Senator Cornyn for an election, energy and geopolitical focused discussion one week away from the 2024 #Presidential #Election.

Today we had the privilege of hosting Peter Lake, former Chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT). Peter was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to stabilize and strengthen the #Texas electrical #grid following Winter Storm #Uri in 2021. He concurrently served as a Board Member of ERCOT and concluded his term with the #PUCT in June 2023. Previously, Peter chaired the Texas Water Development Board. Since leaving public office, Peter has served as an independent strategic #advisor and technical #consultant through his firm, Cardinal Rose LLC. We were thrilled to welcome Peter to our offices in #Houston for a discussion of power systems broadly and his incredible experience tackling the Texas grid problems after the tragic events of February 2021.

I am so excited to announce Treehouse's Series A funding - a $16.6M round led by Flourish Ventures with new participation from Eaton, MassMutual Ventures, Veriten, and inVest Ventures, along with continuing participation from CarMax, Montage Ventures, Acrew Capital, Virta Ventures, Holman, Alumni Ventures, and Invest Detroit. We are on a mission to simplify electrification projects of all types and to do it, we're building a software-enabled installation platform that is creating value for all critical stakeholders - electrified product manufacturers, homeowners, and electrical contractors. Our new funding enables us to expand our operating footprint nationally and invest in deepening our software automation capabilities in service of making a vital legacy industry more efficient. It was an awesome few days with the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School UNC KFBS Energy Club MBA students during this week's Energy Trek to #Houston and #DC. Thanks to Veriten and Energy Workforce & Technology Council for hosting - and for the outstanding presentations from ERCOT Chairman Bill Flores, CPA, Marie Merle Caekebeke, and James Prince Baker Hughes and Tim Tarpley. We covered everything from #gridstability, #energymix, #resilience, and #innovation to #sustainability efforts and reporting, #governance, #compliance, #leadership and #energypolicy. Tremendously grateful to #energyleaders who take time to engage with the next generation that will be leading us through all the opportunities and challenges our industry has ahead.
