Where in the World Is.... former intern Ryan Carr? (green jacket, left in photo) "I think about my seasons with Vermont Adaptive almost every day. Every day on the trails, we built new camaraderie intending to provide an awesome athlete experience, something that still amazes me after a few more years of running around the seasonal changes to our communities here in Vermont. I know that my seasons with Vermont Adaptive made me a more responsible leader, and better friend to everyone I meet." Read about Ryan's experience and what he's up to today: https://lnkd.in/esiX5NW8

We recently sponsored a group of participants for a fun weekend of extreme adaptive cycling in Killington, Vt. — full of downhill rides, top speeds, and twists, turns and jumps over mountainous terrain. The riders enjoyed an intense trail ride at Gifford Woods State Park, with more than 800 feet of climbing elevation. Not only did they push their limits, but their feedback will be used to decide if the trail will officially be sanctioned as an adaptive mountain biking trail. Special thanks to our Adaptive Sports and Therapeutic Recreation teams and our organizing partners, the Kelly Brush Foundation and Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports! Where in the World... Installment #3! We always love to hear about what paths Vermont Adaptive interns take after they leave us. So... Where is Vasu Sojitra now?? Vasu said, "The internship was important to me because it moved me away from this “me” mentality to this “we” mentality. It helped me start seeing the bigger picture of what it means to have a disability. It also helped me realize how powerful having a community can be to the well-being of everyone within. This internship was a spark for me to grow and become who I am today." Read his full story here: https://lnkd.in/eG-_tSYS

Senior Program Coordinator Tom Alcorn practices an assisted rescue today with Crystal Skahan from NORTHEAST PASSAGE non-profit program of the University of New Hampshire. The full day of training was part of the ACA Paddle Flatware Kayak Safety Course that program staffers Felicia Fowler, Sarah Keith, Betsy Hoffmeister, Allie Kaye, and Tom participated in today at Kent Pond in Killington. They had a morning of paddling equipment review, helping techniques, on water paddle strokes and more dryland exercises before heading to the water this afternoon to practice self-rescued and assisted rescues with immersion. Safety and training continues to be top priority for all Vermont Adaptive staff, interns and volunteers, ensuring that outdoor adventures anywhere in Vermont are both fun and safe.
