It's almost here... Zak World of Façades in NYC starts tomorrow! If you're attending, we welcome you to chat with our expert Scott Fox to discover details on local projects, like the Whitney Museum, and how Vetrotech products and customized solutions can help! Color clarity was one of several essential specs for the Whitney Museum building, in addition to meeting one-hour fire ratings and thermal requirements for the exterior windows. The project had strict parameters for light transmittance to protect the artwork housed inside. The glass specifications required a light transmittance of at least 65%, center-of-glass U-value of 0.25 BTU/hour/s.f., solar heat gain coefficient of 0.39 or better, and a color rendering index (RA) of 97 or better. Vetrotech custom-fabricated multifunctional Contraflam 60 IGU windows. The windows include several layers of laminated glass, fire-resistive intumescent interlayers, and an insulating airspace, along with a PVB laminate film that blocks UV radiation, protecting exhibits inside. To avoid color clarity issues through so many layers, each window features Saint-Gobain Glass Diamant low-iron glass. The exterior curtain wall was prefabricated by Vetrotech for easier installation on the exterior façade on site. We're excited for Zak World of Façades North America next week in New York! The event is on October 16th, and we'll be joined by Saint-Gobain brands, SageGlass and GCP. In honor of the locale, we're so proud to share our fire-rated glass contribution to NYC icon, The Statue of Liberty! When the interior of the statue's pedestal was to be remodeled, the goal of architect Michael Mills was making the national monument safer and more accessible to a greater percentage of the public, including — for the first time in its 127-year history — visitors in wheelchairs. It was critical to accomplish this without altering the interior exposed beam suspension system, the primary support structure designed by French architect Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel. Vetrotech products were integrated into two stairwells, doors and floors that allow 360° views of NY Harbor with over 425 sq. ft. of clear, multilayer, CONTRAFLAM 120-minute fire-resistant glass. “Enclosing one stairwell in fire-rated glass was crucial to our safety goal, and [we] found a clear fire-rated glass solution that delivered the safety we needed while still allowing visitors to enjoy the historic fabric of the monument and the glass panels at the landing give you a sense of enclosure, which makes the experience very pleasurable.” – Michael Mills, Architect #fireratedglass #architecturalglazing #glass #zakwof #facades #nyc #project #manufacturer #manufacturing #vetrotechnorthamerica #onthesafeside
