We're thrilled to share that Vicinity has partnered with Oklahoma State University to provide chilled water and steam service to a new medical campus, combining multiple existing buildings into a state-of-the-art hospital totaling over 275,000 square feet of building space. Vicinity will serve the entire 58-bed medical-surgical inpatient hospital for Oklahoma veterans. The medical campus will use steam and chilled water for space heating and cooling, domestic hot water, and direct steam humidification. By choosing district energy, the campus will reduce the emissions associated with its onsite operations. Nearly 100% of the condensate water will be returned and reused at Vicinity’s facility. This sustainable practice conserves water and enhances the system’s overall efficiency, aligning with Vicinity’s commitment to a clean energy future. “By integrating Vicinity’s district energy solutions, we are not only minimizing our carbon footprint but also enhancing the reliability and efficiency of our medical facilities. This collaboration ensures that we provide our veterans with a safe and environmentally responsible healthcare environment," said Dr. Johnny Stephens, president of Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences. Last week, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that nineteen state and local governments will receive over $240 million under the first round of the IRA funded assistance in order to adopt and implement energy efficient or innovative building codes. Several cities that Vicinity serves were recipients of the award, including the City of Baltimore, City of Kansas City, MO, City of Philadelphia, and the State of Massachusetts in collaboration with the cities of Boston and Cambridge. This critical funding will help design, develop, adopt, implement, and enforce building performance standards to maximize emissions reductions from large buildings. Because building operations significantly contribute to climate change, these performance standards will play a significant role in reducing emissions, improving energy resiliency, and driving the transition to clean energy across the U.S. Vicinity is proud to be part of the solution today by electrifying our district energy systems. By decarbonizing our central facilities, we will in turn decarbonize the buildings we serve in 12 cities across the U.S. and reaching net-zero carbon emissions ahead of 2050. Check out the latest #electrification progress at our Kendall facility! ▶️ In the video you'll see new additions to the electric boiler: boiler electrodes and pipes that connect to boiler safety valves. Progress is also being made on a separate area of the facility where our team is deconstructing and removing an old steam turbine, making space for the steam compressor that will be part of our industrial-scale heat pump complex once it's built. Team Vicinity was pleased to welcome members of the Arup team for a tour of our Kendall facility in Cambridge yesterday. The group got an inside-look at how the facility is transforming to offer carbon-free eSteam™ to our customers throughout Boston and Cambridge. Our team is hard at work preparing our recently-installed 42MW electric boiler for service, and upgrades are underway to allow for plans to install an industrial-scale heat pump complex. Thank you to the Arup team for joining us, and thank you to the Vicinity team members that help make our tours a success! #districtenergy #Boston #Cambridge #energytours

Happy #backtoschool season! 📝 📚 Did you know that district energy systems serve many large and small colleges and university campuses across the U.S.? In fact, Vicinity's systems serve over 32 million square feet of campus building space. As students return to campuses, district energy systems are gearing up to provide reliable cooling and heating for campus operations. In West Virginia, for example, Vicinity's district system provides steam and chilled water to West Virginia University buildings. Good luck, students, and thank you to our dedicated teams that are making this back-to-school season a success!
