📍 We often post about news being difficult for survivors in one way or another. Today we are taking the time to explain why that is. Every survivor and every healing journey is unique; these are just a few of the most common reasons that we get requests for support from our community. 💙 If you need support for yourself or a loved one, please reach out. We are here 24/7 at 888-521-0983 for victims of crime and their loved ones. We have interpreter services at no cost in 240+ languages including ASL, Spanish, Russian, Korean, and Vietnamese. You can also visit our website if you'd rather ask for a callback via webform. For screen readers: WHY ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS IN THE NEWS CAN BE SO DIFFICULT FOR SURVIVORS They can experience unwanted memories of their own victimization. They may hear unsupportive comments from coworkers, strangers, TV pundits, etc and think "so you wouldn't believe me either." They may feel angry, helpless or frightened when they are pulled into thinking about what they experienced. The may relive the experience of not being believed, valued, or listened to in the past. NEED TO TALK? 888-521-0983 Free, 24-hour hotline for survivors and their loved ones. 💙💙💙 We know it's been a tough week for survivors in so many ways. Our counseling team has a few tips for how to take care of yourself when you're stressed by the news. For screen readers: Five self-care ideas when you're distressed by news 1: Breathe in for 4 counts, hold 4 counts, exhale 4 counts. Reset your body's alarm system. 2. Act on what you can control: news alert settings, reading habits, which people you follow and engage with on social media. 3. Move your body. Focus on how you feel safe walking the earth today. If you don't feel safe, reach out for help. (We can refer you!) 4. Seek support from a friend, partner, or crisis center. (We are here to help!) 5. Make a small "joy kit" where you keep thing that cheer you up and keep it handy. 🌟About us: Our mission is to provide advocacy and counseling for all who have been affected by sexual violence and other crimes against the person and to promote prevention and awareness in the community through education. Call our 24/7 helpline at 888-521-0983 to speak with a member of our crisis counseling team. #TraumaInformed #Resources #MentalHeath #Norristown #Philly #Pennsylvania #StandWithSurvivors #MeToo #MontCoPa
