VikingCloud’s blog “Deepfake Audio Fraud and Election Security: Why the 2024 U.S. Election is at Risk” by Jon Marler, Cybersecurity Evangelist and Product Manager, highlights how advanced AI can create convincing fake audio and video, threatening voter trust. Deepfakes could mislead voters and damage candidates' reputations. The blog details the recommended strategies to protect the election's integrity, including: Election-specific deepfake detection tools to detect deepfake audio and video content around elections. Public awareness campaigns about the dangers of deepfake technology and encouraging voters to verify information from trusted sources before reacting. Multi-layer verification of election-related information using official communication channels to clarify potential misinformation in real-time. Read the blog for more details about what’s being done to deter the distribution of false information. https://bit.ly/4f457tt. #ElectionCybersecurity #DeepfakeTechnology #AudioFraud #ProtectTheVote #ElectionIntegrity

As election day looms, voters must understand election security risks in an atmosphere of exaggerated threats and stretched truths. For example, Georgia officials have reportedly stopped a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack that targeted a website providing information to absentee voters. Since September, 20 million similar attempts against local and state government websites have been stopped. Phishing and ransomware will also be types of attacks voters will need to be cautious of after the U.S. Election Assistance Commission reported that emails were sent out in an attempt to impersonate the agency. However, the belief that cybercriminals can interfere with voting machines is deemed 'nearly impossible' as voting machines in the U.S. aren’t connected to the internet. What are your thoughts? The index finger is often the first line of defense against cyber threats! Opening an email, browsing the web, and downloading files and documents, all seem so routine that there isn’t a second thought given. But often, not thinking about these actions can lead to serious repercussions. As always, think before you click! 🖱️ #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth #PointToProtect

VikingCloud proprietary research—gathered from a survey of nearly 170 cybersecurity professionals in the U.K., Ireland, and the U.S.—uncovered that while business leaders remain confident, the facts on the ground show that cybercriminals are advancing and innovating faster than their internal teams. In fact, 53% of all companies admit emerging AI attack methods create new attack points they are unprepared to defend against – with the U.K. the highest at 66%. Coupled with the finding that many cyber teams are unprepared for emerging GenAI-fueled attacks – one-third of all companies still have not trained their team on GenAI-related cyber risks.
