Fingal County Council (Co. Dublin, Ireland) has warned the public to be vigilant about a scam involving fake QR codes attached to parking meters. ‘Quishing,’ the name given to this scam, involves using a deceptive QR code to trick users into providing sensitive information. The user scans the code and is directed towards a website that requests credit card information and other personal data. Gardaí, the national police and security service of Ireland said they are liaising with cyber specialists while urging the public to be vigilant about scam QR codes. They advise all persons to scan only QR codes from known sources and always check the destination of the QR code. University Medical Center (UMC) Health System is facing a significant disruption following a large IT outage, part of a ransomware attack that has impacted its ability to deliver care and conduct routine operations. This comes at a time when nearly half of healthcare cybersecurity workers (44%) say their organizations weren’t sufficiently prepared for ransomware attacks against a third party, according to VikingCloud proprietary research.
