Adam Teeter, Joanna Sciarrino, and Zachary Geballe break down the recent news that a private equity firm has purchased The Duckhorn Portfolio and is taking it private. Why has Wall Street been so cool towards wine-only companies of late, and is it something that's inherent to the wine industry, or just a bad moment for these particular entities. 🔊 Apple: https://lnkd.in/eSXDsaCb 🔊 Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eV54Xn3G Listen to a preview 👇

Here's me and VinePair managing editor Tim McKirdy about how the hard seltzer boom gave way to a bust that cleared the board for Twisted Tea’s decades-in-the-making moment in the sun — and paved the runway that vodka-based interloper Surfside is currently speeding down.

Pisco Is Still Searching for Its Place on the American Back Bar Every year, Ivy Mix holds out hope that Pisco’s moment has finally arrived, that this is the year that we’ll finally experience a “Summer of Pisco.” And year after year, she’s disappointed. For Mix, Pisco’s inability to gain traction in the U.S. isn’t just disappointing, but perplexing. On paper, an additive-free spirit craft-distilled from quality wine by mostly small, independent producers should play well in an expertly curated Brooklyn cocktail bar like Leyenda, particularly as consumers gravitate toward products they perceive as pure, artisanal, and authentic. If once-niche liquids like mezcal and amaro can find their places on the mainstream back bar, then why isn’t there room for Pisco? Read Clay Dillow for VP Pro @ https://lnkd.in/euRt2VMz
