We are excited to congratulate Sangmuk Kang (a BIT major with a focus on cybersecurity) and Faith Jones (a Cybersecurity Management & Analytics (CMA) major) on completing their internships with the Defense Civilian Training Corps! Kang and Jones were part of the first cohort of internships provided by the Defense Civilian Training Corps (DCTC) this past summer. A paper written by Alan Abrahams, Associate Professor in the Business Information Technology Department, and his team of co-authors (David Goldberg, Ph.D., Richard Gruss, Ph.D., Samee Khan, Nohel Zaman, Ph.D.), “Text Mining Approaches for Postmarket Food Safety Surveillance Using Online Media” is one the most cited papers published in Risk Analysis!   Abrahams’s paper focuses on the risk of food contamination and poisoning to consumers and proposes the use of text mining and machine learning to quickly find mentions of food safety hazards in online product reviews! Congratulations to Alan Abrahams and his co-authors on the success of their paper and for contributing to research on providing practical and inexpensive ways for firms and agencies to monitor food safety in real time!
