Virpax announced today results for a Swine Model pilot study for Probudur, its long-acting liposomal bupivacaine formulation injected at a wound site to provide both immediate and extended pain relief. The pharmacokinetics (PK) and safety study of Probudur in the Swine Model was designed to determine the PK profile of Probudur as well as to ascertain any adverse effects on the pigs. Virpax today announced results for a Maximum Tolerated Dose (MTD) study in Sprague-Dawley Rats for Probudur™. The study was designed to determine the MTD of free bupivacaine, Probudur, and Probudur plus free bupivacaine when administered as a single subcutaneous injection to the wound. All doses of Probudur were well-tolerated. There were no noteworthy effects on body weight, clinical chemistry, hematology, or coagulation. The USAISR is the premier research organization for developing solutions for trauma and critical care challenges in combat casualties. This study was designed to determine if Probudur reduces pain behaviors - both doses of Probudur showed reduction in incision-induced pain behaviors.
