  • Happy Labor Day to you from all of us at Virtual Building Supply! 🔎What is Labor Day all about? 💡Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first Monday of September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. In 1887, Oregon was the first state of the United States to make it an official public holiday. By the time it became an official federal holiday in 1894, thirty states in the U.S. officially celebrated Labor Day. Canada and the United States celebrate Labor Day collectively on the first Monday in September. Across the globe, many other countries celebrate workers in a May Day holiday. The date of May 1 (an ancient European folk holiday known as May Day) emerged in 1886 as an alternative holiday for the celebration of labor, later becoming known as International Workers' Day. As you enjoy the extended holiday weekend with your friends and family, or at work, we wish you a wonderful, safe day!

    Experienced MEP Industry expert

It is with great sadness I announce the passing of my Father, Peter Barcock, who died peacefully among his close family on Thursday 1st August 2024 aged 84 (18/09/1939 – 01/08/2024).  Peter was an incredible man who absolutely lived a life less normal than most and has left a legacy in both his personal and business lives. He will be sorely missed.  For those not familiar with him: Peter was the creator and founding genius behind the company "MAP Limited" that developed the CAMduct, ESTmep & CADmep suite of products, which ultimately became the Autodesk Fabrication product range following Autodesk's acquisition of "MAP" in 2011. It was his unerring, vision, passion and leadership that drove the company, and products, from humble beginnings in the early 80's to a suite of products that transformed how HVAC & MEP contractors estimate, detail, manufacture and deliver systems. It's a legacy that survives him now and for many years to come.  I was proud to work for him for 20+ years and I am most definitely proud of the man my Father was. Especially so for his benevolence and kindness in establishing a charitable foundation that will help less fortunate souls for decades to come. Another incredible legacy of this quite humble man. We will be hosting a celebration of Peter's life on Wednesday 21st August 2024, from 2.30pm UK time at Poulton-le-Fylde Community Hall. See link below. If you would like to attend please contact myself or SARAH GUTTRIDGE directly.  For those unable to attend, perhaps you can take a moment to pause, remember him and wish him farewell. Thank you. Please do share this news with anybody who knew Peter. R.I.P. Dad xx

  • In business, reputation carries a lot of weight. When industry leaders are known for saying it like it is and they have good things to say about you, it means even more. Thank you, Darren Young, for continuing to strive daily to better the business of BIM. We appreciate you and your words. "Based on my discussions with others and my own tracking data over thousands of fittings, the average cost to build a single ITM is 4 hours. Some are easy and quick. Others are not. The actual building of the ITM isn’t even the bulk of the time. Your costs are finding the sometimes impossible to find submitted data. Only to find you’re missing critical dimensions and need to check with the factory’s engineering team. Pattern/ITM issues. You’re then looking up labor and pricing codes, strategizing on connectivity naming, new materials, file/Folder organization, product information, QA/QC, testing in ESTmep, CADmep, Revit, CAM, gathering Fitting graphics, etc. I’ll knock out a single ITM once in a while. Anything more, I just buy from VBS. Charged against the job, it’s way cheaper than us building it our self. Besides, I’d rather focus on things I can’t outsource. ITM’s are a no brainer. And let’s face it, when someone tells me they need a new fitting library, I’m typically already slammed and have little notice or time. It’s been great to just place my order and eliminate one more worry. PS: NOT a paid endorsement. Just a very pleased customer." Darren Young, Director of Construction Technology, UMC

  • We would like to officially welcome Nicole Taylor Sharp to the VBS Team. She has taken over our marketing and communications over the last few months. Some of our followers may have noticed the increased frequency and quality of social media shares here on our VBS LinkedIn page. We thank Nicole for her efforts and results in reaching and increasing engagement with our clients and helping us get discovered more frequently by potential clients. Nicole has decided to give some of the more creative aspects of content building a go. Cleaning solids in Autodesk Fusion has been her first task. She has taken a liking to it. It has greatly assisted our team in turnaround time for building new content. She may have taken it a bit too far...what do you think...

  • If your labor investment in building content for Revit is more than $75 per ITM, Virtual Building Supply has an alternative that makes dollars and SENSE. VBS has a catalog of over 18,000 ITMs ready to download at $75 each. If you buy 10 or more at a time, you will save even more with our Volume Purchase Discount that automatically applies. Don't see what you need in the existing catalog? Most new-build content is $75 per ITM. Do you need a whole new database? Buy a custom database and the cost per item drops significantly. Spend your time and labor MODELING, not building content. Begin at itembuilders.com.

In honor of #WomenInEngineeringDay, VBS would like to shout out and recognize our client, Diann Reed of Aillet, Fenner, Jolly & McClelland Mechanical Engineering Firm. We were really excited about providing our database services to our first Engineering Firm, as most of our clients are Mechanical Contractors. It's been a pleasure working with Diann, Mechanical Design Engineer. We've learned a lot and look forward to continuing the professional relationship. Diann is a leader in the industry and a great representative to honor today.
