3 years ago, I started at Comcast. It was mid pandemic, and my wife and I were juggling our 2-year-old daughter and 6-month-old son while we worked from home and navigated COVID as new parents. There were so many unknowns at the time, I remember questioning if I had made the right decision. Fast forward, today my son is 3 and my daughter is 5 and just started Kindergarten. I have many new friends, allies, mentees, and mentors. I've grown as a leader, colleague, husband, and dad. I've help lead efforts to support connectivity for immigrants and the farm working community, created public - private partnerships to support digital access for seniors, and most recently got to attend Comcast's Latino Leadership Intensive led by the great Angel Gomez and Robert Rodriguez, PhD at Comcast HQ in Philadelphia. The Latino Leadership Intensive taught me how to use my cultural and social patterns as superpowers. It helped me recognize and proudly accept my responsibility as a Latino leader to create more representation and to share my experience with my colleagues, friends, family and allies. Most importantly, the experience allowed me to reflect and appreciate my career journey. In the spirit of sharing my experience I leave you with this.... Learn to advocate for yourself. Ambition and work ethic will only take you so far. "You" are your best advocate. Learn to communicate your strengths and to highlight your wins/successes. Tell your story! You never know who might be listening. In my case, thank you to my friend and mentor John Gutierrez for encouraging me to tell mine. Because I listened to his advice, I found myself sharing a stage with Jenna Bush Hager and our CEO Dave Watson last December with my wife in the audience to share the experience. To say I made the right choice by joining Comcast 3 years ago would be an understatement. Cheers!
