In March 2024, our 9-month training program in La Gallina will be completed. The training provided by the ViviendasLeon team prepares participants to emotionally and tactically begin working their land as small farmers, which will begin to take place sometime around May-June. These family farms will produce as many as 30 diverse organic vegetable and crops to feed their families and to sell locally in their community. Don Francisco Carrasco, a local community member in La Gallina, recently completed the 9-month training program alongside a group of 20 people. In this reel, you will see Francisco walk in his farm and utilize his training to inspect the health of his crop plants to citrus trees. In June 2022 ViviendasLeón expanded to a new community in La Gallina, Nicaragua. The training program prepares local farmers to emotionally and tactically begin working their land as small farmers, producing as many as 30 diverse organic vegetable and fruit crops to feed their families and sell locally in their community. Before the program, the Davila family only harvested corn, wheat, and bell peppers. With the VL training and materials provided for a family garden, their lives have changed. Gabriela and her mother, Yamileth Davila, have changed their family's future through hard work and training. Their family is healthier, and they have an income that affords them the ability to pay for the other things that they need in life, and to send Gabriela's daughter to school full time. ---------------------------------------------------------- Support Our Work: Help us support rural families to become the agents of their own transformation. Paula and her children - Dinia, Heyling, Jesen and Lenin - live in the Troilo community of rural Sutiaba, Nicaragua. Having successfully completed her HCT training, Paula now owns and operates a family farm where her family cultivates and sells their own produce at local food markets. At ViviendasLeón, our mission is to support and nourish families, safeguarding their cultural heritage and promoting sustainable farming practices. The result is empowered women, nutritious diets and living wages. Our Human Capacity Training programs provide training, tools, resources, and support to indigenous women and their families to improve their own livelihoods through 1). capacity and nutrition training, 2). food and water security, and 3). economic development. These three program focus areas are developed through workshops, leadership training, community cooperation, resource management, new farm construction, and water development that leads to families becoming independent food producers. ---------------------------------------------------------- Support Our Work: Help us support rural families to become the agents of their own transformation. ViviendasLeon is delighted to announce the completion of our first HCT training program based in Santa Lucía Utatlán, Guatemala. The program’s cohort consists of 24 rural families who will begin farming their land in early 2024. Launched in March 2022, our programs began with workshops designed to instill essential skills such as leadership, resilience, and cooperation. Participants then transition to targeted modules covering entrepreneurship, nutrition, and sustainable farming. The culmination of this training equips them to establish and cultivate organic farms on their own land. The Mayan communities of Central America live with multiple challenges including food insecurity, malnutrition, unemployment, and lack of education. Additionally, indigenous women have faced violence and discrimination. Our programs provide training, tools, resources, and support to indigenous women and their families to improve their own livelihoods through capacity and nutrition training, food and water security, and economic development. These three program focus areas are developed through workshops, leadership training, community cooperation, resource management, new farm construction, and water development that leads to families becoming independent food producers. ---------------------------------------------------------- Help us support rural families to become the agents of their own transformation.
