About us
VizeDI is a personal tool that interrupts implicit bias in digital communication so that you can communicate more inclusively, learn about your own biases, and set goals for improvement over time. The truth is, as human beings we all have biases we are unaware of. Our brains have so much information to process at once that as a survival method the human brain takes shortcuts by categorizing past experiences into neat little packages of learned info so we can quickly reference them at a moment's notice and make fast decisions. This is where stereotypes come from. For example, what would you do if you were driving and a ball rolled out onto the street? You would immediately slam on your brakes. Your learned experiences have likely led you to believe a person could run out after that ball into oncoming traffic. This is an example of how stereotypes can serve us well. They become problematic in professional settings such as the workplace because stereotypes about those we work with can be harmful. We have found that implicit biases are unintentionally prevalent in written communication in the workplace because it's an environment that requires candid conversation. Think of the last time you messaged someone. Did you stop to ask yourself "Am I responding to this person as equally as I am to someone who looks more like me?" When you're in the flow of work you're using your reactive brain not your deliberate brain because you are working, getting things done, and not giving it a second thought. VizeDI is a personal tool for privately learning about unconscious biases in written communication. It offers suggested alternatives for non-inclusive words and phrases, information about why they are not inclusive and gives personal trends on how you communicate with different diversities so that you can set goals and see improvements over time.
