VASTA’s mission is to advance the art, research, and visibility of the voice and speech profession world-wide.

About us

VASTA is a 24-year-old non-profit organization founded, grown, and guided by volunteers in the profession. Together we serve the needs of voice and speech professionals all over the world and enrich the field through our activities and initiatives. VASTA is the only organization in the United States dedicated to fostering excellence in the field of voice and speech training. VASTA's current membership includes approximately 500 members from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, Britain and Ireland, South Africa, Southeast Asia and Australia; embracing professors, performers, voice, speech, text and dialect coaches, speech/language pathologists, otolaryngologists, coaches in private practice, and acting, movement, singing specialists who are seeking to integrate disciplines, and others interested in the art and science of the human voice.

  • In two weeks, we will hold our first gathering in Australia hosted by Victorian College of the Arts. The remarkable keynotes include 🗣 Dr Celeste Rodriguez Louro and Glenys Collard, presenting their linguistic research on Australian Aboriginal English 🗣 Wardandi/Bibbulman Noongar and Burmese actor/director/writer Nazaree Dickerson speaking about voice from a First Nations perspective 🗣 Creative producer Daz Chandler, who’ll take us on a journey through the complexities and capabilities of voice in our rapidly changing world, and 🎤 MC and rap artist Yung Philly will be bringing the beats in his hip-hop workshop exploring rhythm, flow and the power of words. 🎭 Award-winning Melbourne theatre artists Pony Cam will also make a special appearance! We've also collaborated with the Australian Voice Association - AVA on a panel where different professions will share their views on voice 🔬🏥👨🎤 Member presentations include workshops, panels and papers on vocal combat, accent coaching, voice and clowning, improvisation and voice, Linklater, Rodenburg, Fitzmaurice and Roy Hart voice work, decolonising Shakespeare, and disability equity in voice training and much more. Voice practitioners in or around Australia, we invite you all to join us. Actors, directors, dramaturgs, theatre practitioners, researchers and all - VASTA is keen to bring together folks from all professional backgrounds, so we can better understand one another and work together.
